Thanks so much, many people thought we were an "odd couple" I was quiet and reserved, and he was the opposite, but we were truly soul mates if such a thing exists.

for remembering the death of my husband last year, that is how I know the time of shock afterwards

he also, not covid, the very idea of which made him snort.

it was a chain of events started by a Parkinson's drug that caused a huge bleeding ulcer, leading to acute kidney injury and dialysis til he died.

He recovered the ability to walk about six months after his release from the ICU, long after rehab had given up.


If I could ask him what heaven is like,

I know he would answer with his trademark

"It's a riot!"

Dear Emerald and others, I have almost completed my struggle with Social Security to get back the final benefit payment due him, which banks ROUTINELY return from the accounts of deceased beneficiaries.

I don't know if this is part of the immense load of work being widowed brings, for you. Not everyone is on Social Security when they die. But if you or others need help, ask.

So sorry to hear that you have gone through this. I don't even know where to begin. Fortunately, I have a lot of support from family and friends, especially from his brother, but it's going to take some time to figure my life out.

My condolences.

We will all miss him.

So glad you are not alone - family and friends supported me, too -

I really look at others differently now, older men and women who faced bereavement and carried on with grace.

Hello OP. I have been lurking around GLP for well over a decade...never had any interest in being more than an AC.

Regardless, I am truly sorry for your heavy hearts and loss. You have seemed a decent sort to me and I pray for the passage of your loved one's soul to the next realm.
