From what I understand is that this literal mind control via nano-machines/CRISPR level gene editing technology stuff is once up to all of your genes and/or nanomachines are able to take control of you that is it for you. You are no longer yourself from then onwards. Besides, that hive mind stuff this Doctor Charles Morgan mentions and somewhat briefly describes is the stuff of nightmares.
