I'd like to add that old tech uses old technology and old code. That was binary machine code. The older machines used punch cards for programming. Can anyone today use a punch card to program in machine language. Everything today is programming in higher code such as C++ and higher...

As of building the IC chip. It could be done by modern means, but may have to be programmed using modern means. Back then it could have been DTL - Digital Transistor Logic which then became TTL - Transistor Transistor Logic...

Back then, the machines were a lot slower and used way less memory. Their BIOS was part of DOS and they had emulators and machine code debuggers which you could go in and change machine code 1 byte at a time. In today's computers you can hardly control anything. It's all pre-programmed at the factory. Good luck trying to program a port for a specific job and change it's Interrupt Service Routine...
