An attacker is 1 or 2 seconds away from stabbing someone to death. You have to act immediately. What do you do to stop the threat? What is your better way?

Officer shot to protect the girl she was chasing with the knife. It's a good shoot. Sad, but police are not just gonna watch you stab someone.

Instead of losing one life by letting the stabbing happened (and thereby nobody would care since it’s black on black), we lost two lives...

Another option is he could have let the girl stab the victim first, then killed her, so it would of been the trifecta.
