Why cut your hair or shave anymore? Both vanity projects that waste time and money.

Stopped cutting my hair 2 years ago. Saved loads of money and time and side benefit is I look like Jesus. People call you brother way more which is cool as well.

Something I forgot to mention in my OP is the tendency these no skill fucks have to face you AWAY from the mirror while they cut your hair.

Barbers used to stand behind you and have your chair facing the mirror so you could watch.

Now they spin you around backwards so they can stand closer to their workspace. This enables the fat slobs to do the entire cut without having to move their fat feet.

Unacceptable IMO

my wife does it. surprised the hell out of me.

First time was ok, then she watched some YT videos and went to a beauty supply house and spent $100 on pro tools. Saved that after 6 months.

Its great...get a tune up any time I want for 0$ and she only gets one tip, but its the one she wants lol

I was given a mullet at my last haircut and I had to walk back to get another employee to fix it. I didn't ask for a mullet. I wanted it short. It was the first haircut where they didn't do the double-mirror back of the hair check.

No thanks. I got the sheers, clippers and spray bottle. I just need a stool and some sort of mirror set up and then I'll figure it out myself.

$10 per haircut isn't exactly lucrative.

This is true.
I got a haircut from a zoomer/millenial "barber" that took over a FUCKING HOUR and it looked like ASS.
Went to my hometown barber when I got back home who has been cutting my hair for 20 years and in 20 minutes he is done and it is flawless. Once I went to a random barbershop in a small town, but the barber was in his 50s, and it seems the older barbers know their shit.
These dumbass kids can't cut hair for shit and expect to be paid a shit ton for there shit job.

This wasn't a fucking great clips $10 cut either.

Those old man barbers really are the best in the biz and not many are left. I don't know of any.

Most were military trained. These guys gave precision haircuts that Robert Daniels would approve of.

Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.

If you’re going to some shithole barber shop or chain salon and looking for a $10 or $15 men’s cut, expect to get a shitty cut.

I have a thick head of wavy silver gray hair and I go to an actual salon.

Ordinarily $35 but I get a discount at $25.

I usually tip $15 so my total cost is $40 and I need it cut every 30 days because it grows so fast.

$9 per haircut in my area of mid-Missouri. So I always hand the barber a ten and tell him to keep the change as a tip.

I started cutting my own hair when the pandemic started.

It was easier than I expected and looked pretty good. I have improved a bit as well. Also, you need to learn how to adjust the cutter tension so it cuts properly.

I used to drive 30 minutes to the hair cutter, wait 15 minutes, get a cut, etc, drive back. It would blow 2 hours easy.

Now it takes me about 8 minutes I would say. Just walk out the back door with a hand mirror and the clippers with a #3 guard on it. and a comb.

#3 the sides and back. and very gingerly trim some off the top leaving it a bit longer. Remove the guard, trim around the ears and cut off the sideburns. Grab a hand towel, knock the hair off my neck, toss the clippers and hand mirror back into the small 6 pack cooler they reside in until needed again.

Take a quick shower to remove the rest of the hair trimmings, and all done.

Most hair cutters would leave my hair too long on the sides, which I hated. Now I can cut it the way I want it. :)

I like a 6 guard on top faded to a 1. No way I could pull that off without tons of asymmetry and ridges between guard lengths.

I've shaved my head down to bald for a very long time. I recently switched to Covid Cuts. Now my hair is down to my shoulders from every angle and longer in the back.

The other reason is that when COVID first hit, the hairstylists just had to charge a $5 covid surcharge. And then, of course, walk-in service was eliminated and replaced with the most obnoxious reservation service you could come up with.

I called one place and couldn't get past the "for your safety we're charging more than we used to and you're now jumping through 3 extra hoops..." No I'm not, actually.

I find the old Italian barbers are the best. You have to really look to find them, though. Best bet is to hop on Yelp and try to read the reviews online. Look for a really old barber that has been around forever. They are usually the best. Their barber shops are usually old school, too. They are still out there, but you need to do a little homework to find them.
