Re: Best epic movies I probably haven't seen?
Got to watch the classics.
The Four Feathers (the 1939 version). Four friends sign up for the Army but when it is time to go off to war, one resigns his commission. His three friends and his girl all send him a white feather each, essentially calling him a coward. But when his old regiment is wiped out by the Mahdi army, the 'coward' travels to Egypt, disguises himself as a bedouin and goes into the desert to save his friends.

a little more modern:
The Man Who Would Be King starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Two adventurers seek their fortune in far-off Kafiristan, where no European has been since the time of Alexander the Great. Watch for the bit in the beginning when they first meet Rudyard Kipling and bond over their mutual brotherhood in the Freemasons ("on the square").
Idol1
Jeremiah Johnson starring Robert Redford. An ex-soldier disillusioned with 'civilization' goes alone into the mountains to be a trapper. He's befriended by an old grizzly hunter (Will Geer) who helps him when he is still a tenderfoot, but becomes the embittered enemy of an Indian tribe who feel he violated their sacred burial grounds. Terrific soundtrack and landscapes.

Binge-Worthy: Band of Brothers The story of Easy Company, paratroopers, from training camp to D Day (see also The Longest Day) to Operation Market Garden (see also A Bridge Too Far) to the Battle of the Bulge (see also Battleground) to Hitler's Eagle's Nest.

Happy Viewing!

Re: Best epic movies I probably haven't seen?
I'm looking for a good epic movie or trilogy to veg out on.

Something relatively newer, but I can make exceptions if it's older as long as it has high quality production value, good audio and sound track, and decent special effects for its time.

Any suggestions?

I've watched all of the Alien, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek movies.. The old epics from the 80's/90's/2000's like Last of the Mohicans, The Patriot, etc. too..

I'm looking for something similar, though. Hell, even a good courtroom drama I haven't seen would be cool.

What else is there to watch?

We aren't cut out to be socialists. We are the people who couldn't be constrained by Europe. We are the malcontents, idealists, speculators, dreamers, inventors, debtors and criminals who would not be chained. Lately, I've been rediscovering the beauty of old films.

One of the best epics, one which will also stir the emotions, perhaps one of the best films ever made: The Four Feathers (1939). Can watch it free here:

If you want an epic film with probably the greatest special effects, greatest stories of redemption and conversion, greatest villains, not to mention greatest cinematography ever put to film, then check out the blu ray transfer on the 50th Anniversary edition of Ben-Hur (1959). You will need a proper 4K HDR television or other high quality display to fully appreciate this marvel:

If you like dramas, particularly crime/courtroom style dramas or film noir, then check out the following:

The Big Heat (1953)
Dead End (1937)
The Killers (1964)
The Desperate Hours (1955)
Five Star Final (1931)
In a Lonely Place (1950)
Dark Passage (1947)

It's time to rediscover the classics, OP. You won't be disappointed.

One of the greatest American films ever made from 1967, In Cold Blood. Based on true life events, it pulls you deeper and deeper into realms of darkness almost too unbearable to comprehend. Bleak and dark, but a great work of art. Robert Blake gives an outstanding performance, unbelievably not even nominated for an Oscar that year.

MYSTIC PIZZA , 1988

stars a young Julia Roberts, in the role before she switched timelines with MOLLY RINGWALD

also has matt damon , where he makes huge scientific disclosures - as he does in nearly every movie

in this case damon discloses the mystic mechanics of quantum temporal warfare and how it affects the pizza industry

the movie is a more detailed version of THEY LIVE, with equally jaw dropping disclosures

enjoy !!!
