Because Tether does not have the enough reserves to cover their $50 billion market cap and and on May 19 they will have to disclose this inconvenient fact due to settlement requirements with the NYAG. Didnt Coinbase just add USDT? I hardly believe they would take a chance on Tether after going public just a couple weeks ago if Tethers couldnt cover their positions. You are mistaking Tether for USDC. USDC and DAI are the only stablecoins that Coinbase support.
