Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79965438 Buzz Aldrin is still around and keeping up the act, is he not? Jeez, is he? My apologies, I thought he had kicked the bucket. My sincere apologies for that faux pas. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79965438 Buzz Aldrin is still around and keeping up the act, is he not? Buzz Aldrin is still alive. He is the one among the three first Moon astronaut I met in the real life quite unexpectedly as he and his eccentric ex-wife were on their way out of the HOtel de Paris on Casino Square in Monte Carlo in November 2018. He was on his way to an event on invitation by Prince Albert of Monaco. A limousine was waiting to take them. I think it had to deal with NASA 60th Anniversary. Buzz was in Monaco again another time for the Red Cross gala after Prince Albert had married Charlene Wittstock. I did not see him that time. Buzz is quite the "man of the world". I came. I saw. I Concorde. For once you have tasted Concorde you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. Imagine, millions of miles from planet earth, and the only human around in a tiny tin can. Brave men who did this. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78576101 Imagine, launching in the Saturn V (debatable) then keeping a low profile for a few days, and then acting your part for the cameras under threats from your COs (and their owners) for the rest of your days |

(OP) User ID: 80191062 France 04/28/2021 02:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NPR 'Forgotten Astronaut' Michael Collins Dies An astronaut who flew on one of the most famous space missions of all time has died. Michael Collins, 90, was part of the three-member crew on Apollo 11, the first lunar landing mission in 1969. Unlike Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, he never walked on the moon. Collins stayed behind and piloted the command module as it circled above. Because of that, Collins is often called the "forgotten astronaut." Collins had been battling cancer. In a statement released by his family, "He spent his final days peacefully, with his family by his side. Mike always faced the challenges of life with grace and humility, and faced this, his final challenge in the same way." NASA Administrator Steve Jurczyk said the nation lost a true pioneer, "NASA mourns the loss of this accomplished pilot and astronaut, a friend of all who seek to push the envelope of human potential. Whether his work was behind the scenes or on full view, his legacy will always be as one of the leaders who took America's first steps into the cosmos. And his spirit will go with us as we venture toward farther horizons." -50% [link to www.npr.org (secure)] I came. I saw. I Concorde.
