Allow me educate you since you aren’t able to do it yourself. There are numerous species of cicada. You are referring to the annual cicada. This year we have the annual cicada along with the 17 year cicada. It remains in the earth for 17 years before it emerges to breed.

I believe that Biblical analogy to be a hypodermic needle.

If you think about it, the tail (end) of the hypodermic has a "stinger" (needle), and it could signify people will start dropping dead in 5 months or that in 5 months they stop the vaccinations because it's too much to cover up at that point.

Have them every year in Texas. They swarm in our live oaks. Not uncommon to see them every morning on the driveway unable to fly anymore.

remember them in MD 17 years ago.. they're sweet, but annoying. They can't see too well so the fly into you, car windshields, etc..Had a hard time stopping the golden retriever from jumping up and trying to catch them after they'd fly into her. Kids trying to catch them. They were EVERYWHERE.

Actually your partially correct.

The Cicada spends 17 years of its life underground in the larval stage and emerges , crawls up on to some object, sheds it's skin and becomes the mating adult with wings.

But that doesn't mean cicadas all emerge at the same time . in the same year. They don't.

In the south we have them every single year, and their noise can literally be deafening.

BTW, if you ever see a cat with one in it's mouth dont try to take it away or approach the cat, I dont know what it is but it makes them batshit insane

True, but the 17 year Cicada emerges and becomes the winged adult every single year. 17 years is just the length of that part of its life cycle, it doesn't mean they only come out every 17th year.

We expect them to emerge in Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York (extinct or nearly so), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C.

This is basically only for Indiana, western Ohio, south central Pennsylvania, and north central Maryland. Also includes Long Island, Delaware, a little bit of eastern Tennessee, a few counties in southern Michigan, and a few counties in Northern Virginia.
