Re: Prenuptials ruin the romance
It puts a trust issue out there on the couple. However, if both parties are mature and if one or both come in with significant assets, it is necessary to protect yourself and your kids (if it is a second marriage) should things go awry.

I've seen many issues with later-in-life marriages where couples didn't protect their heirs. I would never, ever, considering marrying without a prenup at my age. If the new potential spouse doesn't want it, well, that's a huge red flag.

Uh. Religion's got nothing to do with marriage.

Marriage is a legal contract between two people. Previously it used to bond the families, too, and was more about the families than individuals. We should get back to that again.

Biblical marriage doesnt really allow for a divorce and if two people are following the 10 commandments, then there will be no adultery to taint the marriage bed.

The contract between the state and two people have nothing to do with biblical marriage. The state marriage is the love and protection of mammon above all. Biblical high ideals of marriage cannot play in the same sandbox as satan's corruption of it.

No-one has a true biblical marriage nowadays. Women are not to work outside the home (for all the obvious reasons), for one. Men protect and provide. The women keep the family nest and take care of the children. Todays family is a corruption of the high ideals of the family unit.

While not perfect, I know plenty of families that strive to adhereing to Biblical marriage as closely as possible, including my own.

You really have to put a lot of effort and self-sacrifice into it. That's what love really is.

It's one thing if it is your first marriage and you don't mind giving 1/2 your stuff to a spouse if there is a split. It's quite another thing to come in with a decent asset base, and end up giving everything to your new spouse and her kids should you die, and your kids get left out in the cold. I've seen this way too many times.

You know, there are many Bible verses about the evils/foolishness of not planning financially (for your family), such as 1 Timothy 5-8.

"But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

Yes, you have a responsibility in a prenup to take care of the spouse, but also your own family (and future generation). Without a prenup, much of that responsibility falls to an ex (widow/widower) who benefits from your earlier planning. Like they are going to take care of your kids from a previous marriage, or your parents? Heck, many won't even take care of their own kids and parents. If you don't want a prenup, it screams you are trying to screw over a future spouse for his/her money. Just that simple.

Re: Prenuptials ruin the romance
Just hide your assets.

If you’re dating in this world the last thing you want some whore to know is how much cash you have. Unless you’re an idiot.

I never talked money with all the girls I dated. Never told them how much I made. And I always drove a well used car even though I had multiple businesses.

If you want to test a woman make her think you work hard but you’re broke. Then if she marries you (which she won’t) then you got a good one.

I’ve been married 20 years. Have 4 kids. And only my lawyer knows where the loot is buried. But at this point she doesn’t care. She was never a gold digger. I let her have access to a fraction of my income which is about $400k.

That's like saying it's ok to rob a bank to provide for your family. God says divorce is wrong/bad, then it's wrong/bad. It doesn't become justified or become good by applying some kind of utilitarian mental gymnastics. I will go by whst the Bible says, "...let no man separate."

There are other ways to provide for your family without having to defy God. Trust God, not human machinations.

You seem to be under the impression that a prenup means there will be a divorce. A prenup protects you in case there is reason for a divorce.

You have a very naive view of life. One might love another, but if that person plays them false, steals from them, uses them, is unfaithful, has lied about important matters, then they are the sinners and deserve to be shunned. Does God want an innocent person shackled to a devil? The Bible is OK with divorce in case of unfaithfulness. It's also tells people not to play others falsely or steal.

You have a duty to take care of your family, in my opinion. That would come through multiple means, with a prenup being one of them, but also a will. But both parties should talk these things over and agree to it all prior to the marriage.

There are also situations where a legal contract is just not a possibility. God honors the heart. In many countries there is no legal involvement with courthouse etc. Yet they choose a wife or husband.

Considering half marriages end in divorce and only 5% of marriages even have prenups, I'm not sure that they are a big cause of divorce. LOL!

A good prenup protects both parties, and both parties have an opportunity to read the agreement and have their lawyers sign off on it. I can't imagine anyone NOT wanting one unless they marry somebody with a lot of assets, when they don't have much, and then somehow think they are entitled to their spouses assets. And THAT makes them poor marriage material and the reason why prenups are even a thing.
