Quoting: Supreme ChugALugging Heres what it looks like just few miles from where im at.. So Cali.. [link to bensweather.com] Big Bear is awesome! Have stayed there many times... The ugly part of this crap hole state is the politics. The education system has been COMPLETELY compromised...I mean ENTIRELY! I worked in education my entire career, in a very specific field, a niche' that I can proudly say I created, and they even took that over...even though I ran a private co. and did nothing but try to help some, often times very disadvantaged children...up to age 22. Sure, I made a great deal of wealth, and that was an incentive. However, now they're creating a disincentivize economy, and I'm out. It's ugly here in ways beyond the view. I ALMOST picked-up stakes and moved to Big Bear...THANK GOD, I changed my mind. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78343423 [link to reason.com (secure)] The Dumbing Down continues. this is a great idea. we should also explore an acceptable size range , and go ahead and surgically remove part of peoples' legs if they're too tall. maybe we can use the parts we remove from the tall people to give some additional height to the shorter folks. |

Only, I'm barely over 5 feet and I can't dribble. That didn't mean that they had to keep those girls pushing 6 feet off the court. I didn't have a fair advantage because of my height just like those not gifted at math. Being good at math is a gift just like being able to play basketball, football, or baseball. Those with an exceptional gift in math deserve to have the right to a scholarship just like those who are good at sports. Those who work hard to do well deserve a chance as well. There are more sports scholarships available than scholastic. I don't understand this picture. Am I missing something? |

Not only will the math be too slow but it will be torture for them. If they lose patience with slower kids and say something nasty or commit some other micro-aggression, guess who gets disciplined? The bright kids will end up with reportable disciplinary history from this, especially if the parents are competent at math and model proper mathematical thinking -- the kids won't respect the vomit being served up in their math class at school. It's a trap. Get your kids out. Last Edited by oniongrass on 05/05/2021 07:32 PM . "The belief that 'I treat everyone the same' is insufficient: Active efforts in mathematics teaching are required in order to counter the cultural forces that have led to and continue to perpetuate current inequities." Anonymous Coward User ID: 80322277 United States 05/05/2021 07:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From the article: The entire second chapter of the framework is about connecting math to social justice concepts like bias and racism: "Teachers can support discussions that center mathematical reasoning rather than issues of status and bias by intentionally defining what it means to do and learn mathematics together in ways that include and highlight the languages, identities, and practices of historically marginalized communities." Teachers should also think creatively about what math even entails: "To encourage truly equitable and engaging mathematics classrooms we need to broaden perceptions of mathematics beyond methods and answers so that students come to view mathematics as a connected, multi-dimensional subject that is about sense making and reasoning, to which they can contribute and belong." --------- The person that wrote this has no business outside of a mental facility. |
