Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80309338 You can't. They are able to survive extreme punishment. 100+ degrees fahrenheit won't destroy them. |

They are hard to kill. Using Neti pots is a practice that needs to be abolished or at least boil the water first. Putting those amoeba up the nose gives them the opportunity to infect the brain and death follows quickly. People should also not swim in ponds in the hot weather down South. At least people should learn the risks. Very sorry this happened to your son. Last summer the amoeba got into the surface water system around Lake Jackson - stalker - up as far as Rosenberg, TX I believe. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 05/06/2021 09:49 AM Justme |

Also to gain awareness about clean water. Try to get involved with something like that to take away the pain. Good luck. |

If you swim in ponds or streams (stagnant pools), avoid shaded and stagnant areas where they can be. UV light from the sun can destroy them.. so swimming in flowing sun exposed water holes or streams may be safe. |

Nasty stagnant water. Noone ever caught one of these or they were strong enough to beat them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80126427 Hear about it all the time now. I think a lot of people died back then, and the cause was not identified. There is a drug called miltefosine, that if administered immediately, has saved a couple of kids. IF YOU GO IN...DO NOT DUNK YOUR HEAD OR GO UNDER! I used to live in mississippi and never understood why some people would tell me to not go underwater in the rivers around there but now I know why! You were told to not go under water due to the current that is about 4 feet down that sucks you in and fast . DUH ! Rivers like the Mississippi are Brutal and kill every year some dumb ass who dives in off a boat on a hot day and NEVER comes up - that is until the body bloats , but mostly you drown and your bloating body will end up stuck to a log flow on the bottom . Fun aye ! |
