I was 14 years old...what a blast. I still have the "van halen kicks ass" t shirt I wore to junior high. Will we even know we were alive when we're dead? Me Kingdoms were run by kings Empires were run by Emperors Countries are run by..... Dumps were almost fixed by Trump |

Listen to Wolf's new tunes. Hes got it. That would have been amazing. I attended many concerts back in the day of all the great bands but there are a few that I wish I could have seen. I've seen some of Wolfgangs stuff but forgot about it, I'll go back and check them out. |

" I am surprised at myself on how much I miss Eddie and Peart. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 41569780 If Rush needed a drummer, Alez Van Halen wouldn't even be in the top 50 choices. This isnt a dig on AVH, whom I consider to be an excellent drummer worthy if accolades, but in this case he just doesn't fit the bill..at all. |

He was quiet, a student of the guitar, loved classical guitar. He took lessons while touring. Often they were taught by those who taught beginners and weren't very accomplished players. They'd be embarrassed to have Randy Rhoads as a student but he just used the time to jam with them and teach them instead. Such a cool dude and his playing just draws me in. ...but Eddie is the shit. I got one of his picks from the 1984 tour. He led the way for a new generation of players. Others have done the same things he does, but he put it all together in a way that just made all the hammer-ons and finger taps to another level and made it essential for an elite hard rock guitar player to possess. His playing is just infectious and the songs are usually upbeat and beautifully rhythmic. Michael Anthony is an excellent bassist and his vocals are a huge influence in the Van Halen sound and he doesn't get enough credit for it. Sammy is about the only guy that could replace DLR, but you can't top what Van Halen was in the DLR era. They didn't fall apart after him, but it wasn't the same. They lost the bad boy edge. There were no more stories about bowls of M&M's with brown ones removed or they trashed their hotel rooms if you didn't do it. No more Sherman tanks running over a VW. It was Sammy selling Tequila and inviting you to The Cabo Wabo bar. Randy always wanted to jam with Eddie and trade techniques and theory, but Eddie didn't like to do that. He did his own thing and wanted to keep it like that - which is cool. As a fan of both I still wish it happened. |
