I've never used a TEDx talk for a discussion link at GLP. Some are great, others boring or not well-sourced. But here's one in which the American voting process is compared to the Hong Kong vote. In both cases, 0.02% of the voting population choose the candidates. Boss Tweed is quoted early in the video ("I don't care who the people vote for, just so long as I get to select the candidates"). But the frame at 9:51 summarises the situation confronting Americans. Around 400 families in America select the candidates, and guess what? Your interests are not uppermost in their minds.

There were special qualifications, comparable to property-holding requirements for voting, for being able to sit on a jury - a juror had to be a homeowner, pay a certain amount of taxes, etc. in the 19th century.

It never went away and all you got in its place was circus theatre and a piece of candy to keep you quiet all the while.

In America its lobbyists, in Europe its the worker's unions etc. which are mired with filthy lobbyists with ideological agendas as well.

Wouldn't it be nice of one - JUST ONE - of these bought-and-paid-for supes for the billionaire thieves & warmongers came out and told the whole truth? We all gotta die anyway someday, so call a press conference, stand behind bulletproof glass and havea tall glass of water and whatever suits you as a kill shot, and tell us everything.
