Donated Blood Yesterday
It’s been over a year since I’ve donated blood, and my how things have changed.

The first thing they ask you, now, after your name and date of birth, is your gender. Y’all don’t know what I look like but I’m a shaved-head bald dude with a full beard so it’s pretty obvious. I was so confused at first I had to ask the lady to repeat the question. Thought I had misheard her. I wanted to make a smartass remark but I know the poor ground-level employees are made to ask this by their social justice warrior masters at headquarters.

They also ask you your name and DOB repeatedly throughout the process. I think I was asked six times in the space of an hour. No idea what that’s about. I guess it’s a security procedure, but I don’t know how it improves security.

The most troubling part, though, was for the first time since I started donating blood in the early 90s as a teenager, I did not fill the bag. My blood coagulated too fast and they had to pull the needle and give up after about half an hour. The nurse said that’s normal but it’s not normal for me, and with all this talk about vaccine-related blood clots and spike protein shedding from the vaccinated (I’m unvaxxed for Covid. Haven’t even had a flu shot in 12 years), I got really concerned and have started a baby aspirin regimen just in case.

Hmm. That blood thing is odd. I used to donate plasma once a month at Red Cross but with little kids now it's hard to schedule a time. It's been a few years for me. I'd like to start again.

Second they ask gender you should have said what the hell do you think.

If they couldn’t figure it out I would have told them there is no way your sticking a needle in my arm if you cannot tell that I am a man you fucking twat.

I drink MUCH more water now then I ever have in my life. 15-20 glasses a day at least. I piss every half hour. My blood should not be this thick.

That's very interesting! Maybe you should drink more before you go there? Maybe you also have something wrong with your blood. But please, are people who have been vaccinated actually allowed to donate blood?

Yeah, that was what I wanted to say, but like I said, they are required to ask by their superiors. I’m sure she could tell. I would imagine they feel pretty stupid asking that question. My wife got it, too, and she’s as clearly female as I am male.

Hey Rev! Signed on for a minute to participate with you. I find it so freaking strange that three weeks ago, I was sick with stomach problems. Went the next day to have serious lab/blood work done, and they could not obtain the required 5 viles needed for the tests, as my blood coagulated too fast. I don't drink as much water as you do, but I've never in 44 years of living has these issues. Quite the contrary, although I'm not a free bleeder, I usually can't get a decent shaving accident to stop creating a small murder scene. Is anyone else on the forum seeing or experiencing the same things?

I did drink lots of water, as I always do, before going in.

And yes, the vaccinated are allowed to donate. There’s a question on the survey about it. I asked the nurse if it was a disqualifying question, and she said, “No. Red Cross is just nosey.”

I just found a good overview of why blood thickens? It says the first reason is low oxygen. So it could be the cell towers?

Or there is now much less oxygen in the air in principle?

Are you of Celtic lineage?

Nearly 25% of those who are carry the hemochromatosis gene

Aka too much iron in the blood

The thick viscosity and dark color are a symptom

I also take a lot more vitamins than I used to as a Covid preventative (keeps me from catching the crud my youngest kid brings home from school sometimes, too, which is a nice side benefit), so it could be related to that. Either way, I’m too young for an aneurysm. Hence the aspirin.

AC7063 - Yes, they DO ask. I donated a month ago and they asked.

Revbo - I can understand your concern, I hope you have nothing to worry about. I started donating in the late '80's. I found out back then that I am a slow bleeder and that my blood coagulates quickly.
I have to keep spinning the little squeeze ball they give you, otherwise my blood stops flowing. Doesn't matter if I am well hydrated or dehydrated.

Hopefully its nothing to worry about! Stay safe, hope you're having a good NPW.

Isn't it weird that they ask if a person is vaccinated? Did they ask you the other day what you're vaccinated against? That sounds suspicious to me. Maybe they're tracking to see if there's any actual transmission from the vaccinated? Maybe they just won't tell you. And maybe next time you should ask why THEY are asking about it!

I used to donate as well. That all ended with COVID. I live in CA and didn't want to be on a state list after all this started.

But when I was donating, I had a couple of clotting episodes after I had eaten a lot of salads. Lettuce contains a lot of vitamin k and will thicken the blood. Even people on blood thinners like Coumadin are warned not to eat too much as it could interfere with the effects of the medicine.

So, consider your diet as well.
