UK schools implementing lock in / lockdown policy ?!?

Just been advised to an new policy at our school called lock in. In essence, the sealing of the school off from the outside world and no one entering the building. They describe the following scenarios:

A Lock Down (in) is implemented when there are serious security risks of the premises due to, for example, nearby chemical spillage, proximity of dangerous dogs, serious weather conditions or attempted access by unauthorised person’s intent on causing harm/damage.


On very rare occasions it may be necessary to seal off the school so that it is not able to be entered from the outside. This will ensure that pupils, staff and visitors are safe in situations where there is a hazard in the school grounds or outside the school in the near vicinity.

What are they prepping for? I done a search and see a similar policy was introduced at ealing school if you do a google search (it's called lock down in that one, our message said it was called lock in but the policy is the same. Ealings was introduced in 2017).


Anyones else school announced this? I presume its national roll out?

Nothing happens without a reason. They can seal your kids in side with no access....
