Nrealy 1/3 of People Wash Their Sheets Just Once Per Year! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79543875 United States 05/16/2021 09:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow! So many people have forgotten the reasons why we do things. Quoting: BirdMom You're supposed to wash sheets to avoid getting diseases like meningitis. It's not hard. You make sure you have at least a couple of sets of sheets. Take the old ones off, put the clean new ones on, then wash the old ones and repeat the process again next week. You're also supposed to flip the mattress occasionally too. You can’t flip many mattresses these days. They are one sided. So all you can do is turn them from head to toe and back. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79543875 United States 05/16/2021 09:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wash mine four times per year, my jeans twice per year and shower every other day, only using soap in strategic areas (no shampoo). My hair is not greasy and my skin is not oily or dry. Haven't been sick in five years and look 10 years younger than my age. Haven't had the flu shot in 25 years and haven't had the flu since then, either. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80363471 I'm a professional and a conservative and have had many long term relationships with beautiful women. Only one has taken issue with my hygiene only because she has OCD. People who get the annual flu and Covid shots are disgusting. They are also the ones who are hyper concerned with cleanliness and are more often sick. My ex with OCD over contamination issues was sick all the time. Needless to say, I ended that relationship. Not worth the stress and her high cortisone level was likely a major factor why she was always sick, despite her obsessive compulsive cleaning with disinfectants. I had no idea that so many wash jeans so seldom. The only clothes I don't wash every time I wear them are things that have to be dry cleaned or hand washed- which I seldom have anymore because I don't like to mess with them. That a big reason why I stopped: It's a waste of time and prematurely wears out your cloths. Of course, change your underwear and use wet wipes, and nobody will know the difference. We are bombarded with personal hygiene and household cleaning products because it is a trillion dollar industry on a global scale. Most of these products do more harm than good to the human body and that causes the "need" for pharmaceuticals, which puts more money in the PTB's pockets. It's an unnecessary, costly vicious cycle. I never even thought of it like that. The way I was raised is to wash clothes every time you wear them except for outer garments like coats and jackets. I wear shirts and pants many times without washing them unless I get them very dirty or sweaty. I have old clothes I wear around the house and only wear good clothes out so they stay clean. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58070314 this plus not having a washing machine is a pain. only one set of landlord provided sheets is also. would love to know how many of that 1/3 are poor and or living in rented property Landlords provide sheets? I have never heard of that in the US. Some luxury apartments in big cities have everything already in there, furniture and everything. Lots in NYC and LA. I've lived with one set of sheets. You just wash them as soon as you wake up, hang them up to dry while you're awake, and put them back on the bed before passing out. Easy peasy. Yup. I don’t have many places to store extra sheets. Anyway I like them right out if the washer and dried that day. I don’t like old sheets. Even a week old. They get a funny smell. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80265922 United States 05/16/2021 10:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, in all honesty, I allow my little Jack Russell to sleep on the bed with me, and she can be nasty after running outside on that red clay, so I have to wash all the bedding regularly. The sheets, normally weekly, and the blanket and quilt topper every couple of weeks. I never buy a comforter because they are just too difficult to wash and some of them say "dry clean only." That's not practical when you have pets sleeping on the bed. Quilts are so much easier to wash. Arguably, having pets sleep with you on the bed is nasty. Dirt, mud, pet dander and pet hair are such great things to wake up choking on. NOT! I get to share my bed with carpenter ants at the moment. Those nasty little buggers are everywhere when spring hits. If you don't crush the head before you throw them across the room after one craws down the back of your neck, they find their way back in bed with you in five minuets. Joy! It is what it is. But I am a single guy who often falls asleep wearing the same clothes I had on that day to bed. |

This will stop the ants from crawling into the bed. Also get diatomaceous earth and sprinkle around the legs of the bed where ants would crawl up. They will crawl through the DE which will dry them out and then they die. This works for bedbugs also. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30489486 Life in the 1500's Next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be... Here are some facts about life in the 1500's: Probably true. As far as food goes, my grandparents and great grandparents did not refrigerate cooked soups, stews, or chilis. They would leave the pot covered on the stove and reheat it nightly until it was gone. I've done the same and never been ill from it. Plenty of other stuff was routinely left out when I was a kid like dressings, condiments, jellies, jams, pickles, eggs, pies, cakes, bread, and butter. These items didn't used to say to keep refrigerated and didn't have expiration dates, either. As far as sheets and clothes go, I was raised to wash everything after it was worn. Sheets got washed weekly. When I was young, poor, and had to cart everything to the laundromat, I would wash sheets every 2 weeks and wear shirts and jeans twice before washing. Any more than that and the items had detectable stink. I can't imagine what 6 month bed sheets smell like. Yuck! |

User ID: 79396918 United States 05/17/2021 04:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ummm....sheets get washed every week. Pillows put in the dryer every few weeks and replaced once a year. Quilts, blankets (on bedding) washed every two to three weeks. Sofa cushion covers about 2-3 times per year but I have a dog and I keep blankets on my sofas just to prolong the cushion cover washing. I wash those blankets one a week. I might wear jeans twice max before washing but I live in FL, it’s hot. I have teenagers and I tell them to AT LEAST change their pillowcases once a week if not more often. It can contribute to acne. I bought silk pillow cases for my girls because it’s supposed to be more gentle on their hair, less breakage. I use vinegar as a final rinse and a bit of borax in the laundry sometimes. Also change your A/C filters every month and run vinegar down the condensation drain (I think that’s what it’s called). I don’t care if the filters say 3 months, I change mine monthly. They’re not expensive. |
