Well, one of the biggest contributors to killing off trees is salt water intrusion. If you look at aerial pics of NC coastline, mainly the Inner Banks (IBX vs OBX), one will not the progression line of dead trees from the shorelines.

It's not so much from rising sea levels but more from several decades long process of pumping freshwater out of the Castle Hayne aquifer. It has never been allowed to recharge properly so salt water intrusion happens when land subsides.

Then Aqua Utilities (private company takes that water from that mining operation) and then sells it back to consumers inland. And yrs ago there was a moratorium in place dictating how much folks could draw down from their water tables.

Have been out of the game for many yrs and haven't kept up with all the shenanigans east of I-95 but pretty sure my state's crooks are still at it.
