'Tree farts' from a ghost forest in North Carolina are releasing greenhouse gases, experts find
'Tree farts' from so-called 'ghost forests' in North Carolina are contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, according to experts from North Carolina State University.

Dead trees -- also known as snags -- in these 'ghost forests' release carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in trace amounts (as does the nearby soil) that are contributing on some level to greenhouse gases.

'Even though these standing dead trees are not emitting as much as the soils, they're still emitting something, and they definitely need to be accounted for,' the study's lead author Melinda Martinez, a graduate student in forestry and environmental resources at NC State, said in a statement. 'Even the smallest fart counts.'

A tiny drop in the bucket compared to all the dead trees killed by bark beetles out west because the green weenie environmentalists don't believe in selective logging to thin forests. jerkit

It's a grad student, they'll say all kinds of crap to get noticed.

Remember when the ruckus over cow farts started? I used to know a professor at Utah State University in their agriculture department around the time that first came out so I asked him what he thought of that. He just laughed and said grad students'.

Well, one of the biggest contributors to killing off trees is salt water intrusion. If you look at aerial pics of NC coastline, mainly the Inner Banks (IBX vs OBX), one will not the progression line of dead trees from the shorelines.

It's not so much from rising sea levels but more from several decades long process of pumping freshwater out of the Castle Hayne aquifer. It has never been allowed to recharge properly so salt water intrusion happens when land subsides.
And thought struggles against the results, trying to avoid those unpleasant results while keeping on with that way of thinking. That is what I call 'sustained incoherence.' ...David Bohm

We have a graduate student studying tree farts and concerned of the 'trace amounts' that is actually less than the SOIL surrounding the tree? What next - burn the soil or something? WTH?

Then you and those at NCSU already know the true meaning of 'don't drink the water.' And hell no, it wasn't the dry cleaning operation at Camp Lejune that fucked up the water and making so many people on and OFF the base sick. It's the mining operation at Aurora.

Wanna' hear a nifty trick? The phosphate mining operation in Beaufort County draws down something like 70+ million gallons of freshwater per day. Then Aqua Utilities (private company takes that water from that mining operation) and then sells it back to consumers inland. And yrs ago there was a moratorium in place dictating how much folks could draw down from their water tables.

Have been out of the game for many yrs and haven't kept up with all the shenanigans east of I-95 but pretty sure my state's crooks are still at it.

Trees give off oxygen so that we can breathe as they took up carbon dioxide to flourish. It's God's perfect harmony. Climate change freemason demons are spewing this nonsense about tree farts.

There IS NO GODDAM THING AS GREENHOUSE GASES BECAUSE ALL GASES ARE SIMILAR IN DEGREE OF INSULATION CHARACTORISTICS OR LACK THEROF .

ITS PURE BULLSHIT.
FACT IS LIFE ON EARTH IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT CO2 AT PRESENT OR AT HIGHER LEVELS.

THERE CONCEPT OF CO2 as an insulating gas is a fraud, both because of its physical characteristics as well as its trace concentration in the atmosphere as its actively sequestered by plant life almost instantly and converted to carbohydrates as cellulose or edible starches and sugars sometimes called "food".

its not a fucking greenhouse gas, its fu ki g FOOD GAS.

NO CO2? NO FOOD.

CO2 is what feeds you.
Its not a pollutant its recycled through essentially All life forms as an irreplaceable substance required for all life on the planet.
CO2 IS goddam SURVIVAL GAS, for real.

Stop being lied to.

I keep seeing that word “snag” everywhere the last 2 days. Here in Australia a “snag” is a sausage and you know how much I love those! So a snag is also a dead tree.
