While a diagnosis of Rona cannot be ruled out, I believe the cause might have something to do with U.S. Patent #4,686,605 ("Method and Apparatus for Altering a Region in the Earth's Atmosphere, Ionosphere, and/or Magnetosphere"). Oddly enough, I just read the patent details this afternoon and a lot of the information seems to relate to that video.

From the patent description:

For the first, Proxima Centauri is far too small to detonate a supernova. Leaving that aside, though, even a small supernova at that distance would likely cause massive damage on earth, though some primitive organisms (I’m guessing up to and including some of the hardier arthropods [*cough*cockroaches*cough*]) would survive.

Also, the ACE satellite 'spikes' are usually bad data returns. Unfortunately many of the so-called realtime models are linked to ACE data returns; ergo garbage-in=garbage-out. NOAA's Space Weather Prediction website used to post all minute-by-minute ACE data with codes which indicated any corrupted data or dropouts. They've reconfigured their website so I don't know if you can still find it. (search for ACE One Minute Data)

As a warning to all--don't put too much stock in NASA's or NOAA's computer simulation models. They can be useful tools, but they're not reality. I've witnessed many times where they fail badly. (same goes for climate models!)
