Re: Four hours to bug out!
You should be living in a place you would bug out to.

It should be your home.

Mine is.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79719273

What if a toxic tanker dumps in your neighborhood or upwind from your site. Then where do you go? Your neighbor has a meth lab and it just exploded. Who knows what can happen.
 Quoting: Achduke7

Meth labs aren't a thing anymore so much. Cheap shit comes in from Mexico that makes that risk too high. Said the cops I talk to.

But yeah, 3 choices.
1. primary home
2. bug out location, campground or cabin
3. mobile.
 Quoting: Agent 99

What about regional bug out locations? 400+ nuke plants in the USA. One nuke plant could wipe out a whole region. Upwind and downwind does not matter because wind patterns change seasonally. Just expanding on the situation.
 Quoting: Achduke7

I like the posts that say to move out of the cities.

The number one reason to move is being more than 100 miles from a nuke plant. Eastern part of the USA is littered with Mike plants.

Good luck living outside the city but down wind/stream from a nuke plant

What do you do and what do you take with you and your family if you may not come back?

Just a thought experiment.
 Quoting: Achduke7

Bug out for what reason?

It matters...

The only reason to bug out would be something so horrible that it's a regional problem that a few hour drive would solve the problem. In 99% of the cases bugging in would be the correct answer.

What's the disaster?

A nuke plant 225 miles from you just exploded. A radioactive toxic plume might be heading your direction but the winds keep changing and you may or many not be safe. The plant is not far from a metro area and radioactivity is causing havoc with the electronics of a major internet exchange which is affecting other areas of the country. There is also fear that service personal will not be able to fix the outages for safety reasons. Concerns over the electric grid in that area bringing down the rest of the grid are in play. Stock market has been faltering because of the unknown extent of the damages.

Re: Four hours to bug out!
I'm already in God's country here. Nowhere else I would bug out to as we've got solar, huge garden, running stream, forest full of game animals, farmer neighbors, and can bike 10 minutes to a beautiful hidden lake.

If there was ever a reason to bug out from THIS location, I'm staying put and dying right here on my beautiful rural land looking at the gorgeous mountains and sky as my last sights on earth.

i am taking old trampoline frames and building a quonset hut on my property.

so far i have 0.00 invested

2 friends have given up trampolines they werent using ... so that gives me four ribs.

should have a height of 11', not sure the length and have another on the way i am thiking of making a green house with
 Quoting: Coastie Patriot

Sounds interesting. Do you have plans for this?
 Quoting: Achduke7

just an idea right now....

i got rid of my sons and then the next day thought of it.

plan on using half the tramp to make the frame so 2 tramps = four ribs, use some of the straight poles in between the frames for extra support, then some of the other straight poles to raise the height and set them in concrete.

similar to this :
if you google ian whitehouse twitter trampoline shed theres a great one on there.

If I bring my mobile phone, passport and my wallet, I have access to all my finances, all family pictures, other important documents, debit- and creditcards, and ID. Then I would also bring a 512GB memory card, which contains backup of everything that is stored in the cloud.

Re: Four hours to bug out!
plenty of posts similar to this have stated staying in motion is the key to survival, laying down roots make you vulnerable

also someone mentioned not instantly growing seeds.

that is why you practice foraging, learnign to eat smalls. crickets arent that bad, learn fruit trees and where to forage and how.

preservation for the winter time when foraging is harder

i am currently growing paw paw, persimmon, blck cherries, and muscadine grapes from seed i found in local parks and various places.

i take them to my property and let them grow. planted 7 paw paw last year and 5 black cherry trees, 5 persimmons.

plenty of acorns and know how to prep them, hickory trees....

My car has a 65Ah battery and an extra 12V cigarette outlet that can be connected directly to the battery poles, and a matching USB adapter for charging. I use that when I am out in the field working. Even if my car breaks down completely, I have power for several days. It takes 2Ah to fully charge my mobile.

But if it is a total SHTF situation, as people above have pointed out, there won't be any cell services available. Otherwise, I can use my mobile to buy everything I need.
