thanks for the wierd old time movie! Back then they really had freedom of speech, lol.

I live in Milwaukee and my kids mostly were brought up there. There is a strong Chippewa presence there and my Dad and was German -Irish. So we felt at home. We went to the big cemetery named Valhalla and amoung the lovely statues I told them of the Opera and the "Ride of the Valkyries (sp)" where the ride down from heaven and scoop up the fallen soldiers and take them to Valhalla, home of the Gods.
They have a replica of the Theatre Lincoln was shot in at the VA cemetery...a botonical garden of three huge domes, festivals and Pow-Wows all summer at the Lake Front, a great repetrory Theatre and a Symphony.

From the expressway one views a sea of spires and domes from all the wonderful little neighborhoods, Polish (if you love eating this is where you must live and attend all weddings.), German- french, Mexican and so on.St. Josaphat Basilica was polish and still has Mass in Polish but is in a Mexican area now. It is a one third replica of st. Peters in Rome. Originally a great Cathedral was designed but the polish people were rather poor so they had the German Architect bid on the Chicago City Hall scheduled for demo and he won and had to redesign everything.

In the great fire during a horrid dry/heat spell, Most of the south side burnt down but not one leaf on the trees of the block of st. Patricks burnt down.(the same day up here in the U.P. of Mi,over 3,000 people burnt to death in the Peshtigo fire from Escanaba MI to Green bay, WI but no one knew since the Lines burnt down) The people in Chgo had no food or drink so the Schlitz brewery sent down kegs of beer to them from Milw. and became the beer"that made Milw famous"
