To cause desolation through the hundreds of countries on this planet and then sequester yourself and your "slaves" in one area so you can live like Kings would adversely affect the people doing it. As trade itself would break down and resources would be hoarded and gluttony would be a major issue. Depression would be insane and suicide would be even more prevalent. Millions of weapons and running systems that seemed to be helpful would become minefields ready to explode at the slightest touch.

While I am not a big fan of El-lily (phage issue) there are still lots of people who die from some form of lung infection so if the trillions being collected by 'them' was spent on actual research into those illnesses they would probably find a few cures along the way. That would be 'good news'.
