Elite Billionaire Neighborhood in Manhattan to get a Homeless Shelter
Schadenfreude.

The billionaires fought against the homeless shelter, 'not in my backyard', and lost. The shelter will happen. LOL LOL LOL LOL.

NYC's Billionaire's Row gets new neighbors: De Blasio plans to build a homeless shelter in elite Manhattan neighborhood near luxury Plaza Hotel is given the green light after court dismisses protest lawsuit by residents and business
- The homeless shelter will be created inside the former Park Savoy Hotel in New York city's Billionaire's Row
- The area includes the most expensive home in the United States - a $238 million penthouse sold in 2019 - and the tallest residential building in the world
- Famous faces such as Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, Sting and Trudi Styler have all bought property along the streets

From the same original link:

Real estate agents describe it (Billionaire's Row) as an area south of Central Park, between 57th Street and 59th Street from north to south, and stretching from 8th Avenue in the west for eight blocks east to 2nd Avenue. Trump Tower is just to the south.

--------------------

Property values are going to fall quickly with this news. I shouldn't have bought that 238 million dollar penthouse.

Here is the Park Savoy Hotel on Google maps. [link to www.google.com (secure)]

The Savoy is the grey building on the map. If you switch to streetview you can check out the nice places very nearby. Also please note the blurred out area on the building next to the Park Savoy. I wonder what Google was told to hide

Oh, yeah, that's a REALLY nice neighborhood. I watched the Thanksgiving parade from that spot a few years ago. Putting a homeless shelter there is going to be a catastrophe for local property values. I'm guessing this is a shot at Trump more than anything else, but deBlasio is screwing a lot of his own voters.

That’s true. They say they want to help the disadvantaged. They just don’t want to see them or have them in their neighborhoods.

There goes property values. Someone will come in and buy them at a bargain. Eventually the shelter will be moved someplace else. Then the values will rise again.

The shelter will cost $63 million over nine years, or $50,000 per person, according to the West 58th Street Coalition, which is campaigning against the shelter.
...
The shelter is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's 'Turning the Tide' plan to create 90 homeless shelters across the city.
---

1 shelter over 9 years = $63,000,000.

$63,000,000 x 90 = $5.67 BILLION for housing 140 x 90 = 12,600 people over 9 years. What a utter waste of funds.

Have notice that these folks have been selling in the last two years and moving elsewhere. Often to utah and other similar states. The rest have gone to the hamptons or the hudson valley permanently.

They're not coming back so they really don't care.

The homeless will have a one block walk to Central Park, pretty nice place to be homeless. The doormen at all the other buildings are going to have their hands full with the now local homeless. And I just thought of the news studios like FOX where you can see out their windows, I need to see how far they are from this place.

NYC voted for this. 90 new homeless shelters in NYC.

Guaranteed. There will be panhandlers living in that shelter making more money than half of Americans. They'll likely have social workers on staff teaching them how to get all the benefits, too. It'll be like a free luxury hotel right on Central Park.

Either that says the economy will tank and they will need a lot of shelters. Or people are just choosing homelessness because of all the perks.

The Ritz-Carleton is one block away.

Trump Tower is two blocks away.

And they can order takeout from Sarabeths, just 19 bucks for some avocado toast.

The Plaza Hotel is a luxury building.

The Park Savoy homeless shelter is near the luxury Plaza Hotel. (one block away)

I know what you're thinking, the selection of the shelter may have something to do with Trump's properties being nearby.

Trump Tower is also 2 blocks away.
