By "save" I do mean invest...At 12% I double my money every 6.5 years...

By double, I mean 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 8

In 20 years you will have 8 times your original investment, IF YOU NEVER ADD ANOTHER PENNY!

The exponential growth of just 12%, the markets overall average, is the best and simplest way to make yourself wealthy...
 Quoting: BRIEF

Great if you're going to live for 1,000 years. I prefer doubling my money up monthly.

Thats 1 month 100%, 2 months another 100% etc. Exponentially.

If you want to make big bucks. Wtf is the point is waiting 20 years to make a measly 800%? So you can afford your retirement home?

You want to be aiming got a minimum of 500% a year.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77687416

Yes, my way takes time...but it works...And so must you...
 Quoting: BRIEF

Let me talk down to you a bit. Buying crypto is not buying currency. Buying crypto is buying access to the crypto network. What value could you place on the internet? This is the value of crypto currencies.

The crypto network has grown exponentially faster than the internet you know of. If you are talking returns on growth, then you are a fool for missing out on this growth because it is growing faster than any company can produce anything.

You're looking at it wrong, Brief. You never did your homework. Crypto buys you access to the biggest growth industry on the planet. How much do you pay monthly for internet service? Wouldn't it be great if the internet service paid you for using it? This is crypto...
 Quoting: Sal Monella

Buying crypto is putting a value on the internet???

Wow that's got to be the dumbest comment on GLP this year.

Do you live in eastern europe where the internet has just arrived?

I'm married and have a kid on the way.

I have 0 debts.

All thanks to crypto.

Anyway. When you hit 400% in 80 years. At least you will be able to afford your own coffin :)

The "currency" is dependent on electricity and the internet...

Every purchase leaves a trail...

What happens if you lose/forget your wallet password?

In the US, a person is not responsible for any fraud against them, so I really do not see the benefit of taking extra steps to change my money into a bitcoin, just to buy a book online, and how do I go about private transaction?

If I want to buy something from someone and leave no trail??

No, I acknowledge inflation as a given and account for it...

I began learning about investing over 35 years ago with CD's, and then learned from there...However, watching CD rates is a clue to market trajectory...Low CD rates means low inflation...
 Quoting: BRIEF

Well good luck, I honestly hope it works out for you. I see a storm coming that bitcoin may not even be able to save us from.

I'll keep hodling the money they can't screw with though.

I'm diversified in many other assets, in my 30s, and been retired for 2 years thanks to bitcoin.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79299619

You bought when it was dirt cheap, you likely didn't pay your taxes and you took the money of everyone else who lost money from bitcoin.

Have a nice day, you piece of shit.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78349802

I think that's what really bothers me about cryptocurrency.

What am I getting by purchasing a bitcoin?

I know what I get when I buy a chunk of Microsoft or Amazon...

Where is my benefit in cryptocurrency?

Try to sell it to me!
 Quoting: BRIEF

Bitcoin is scarce, it's impossible for anyone to just create more.

Bitcoin is uncensorable, nobody can stop you from transferring it anywhere in the world.

Bitcoin is unconfiscatable, no government can reach into your account and snatch it in the dead of night.

Your dollars are none of those things. If you can't see the value in that then I don't know what to tell you.

Think of it like real estate or gold, you're buying a piece of the largest computing network in the world, that was designed to do nothing more than be the best money mankind has ever seen. Sure the value will fluctuate against the dollar like those other assets do, but for the last 12 years it's been nothing but up in long timeframes.

To me the other cryptos are cheap knock offs, not unlike the peso.

I just have to laugh at threads like these.

I have a doctorate, and IQ of 138, and have been into crypto since 2013.

So I don't really fit your description, OP.

Right, "dumbest people." Or maybe its just that the OP doesn't know the right people?

Maybe the OP is a butt-hurt no-coiner who doesn't recognize the signs of the times?

Maybe the OP sold at the market low?

Maybe he is doing is wrong.

The dollar ain't going anywhere for awhile, but neither is crypto, gold, or silver.

The game is not about "either or," learn how to capitalize by using them all.

Someone like elon can make a tweet and make the value get cut in half. Some "investment".

Of course you'll only hear from the ones who bought cheap and sold at 64,000, never the ones who mortgaged their homes and bought when it was 55,000.

If everyone is using bitcoin there won't be a need to convert to dollars. If smaller denominations are needed the decimal point can just be moved not unlike a stock split.

Three years ago our neighbor and his brother bought a bunch of XRP (I think). They bought it when it was just a few cents per coin then it shot up and they sold it for a massive profit. I’m jealous because he was able to by a new tractor and a side by side.

Brief your token is called HEX
It is a very well audited CD.

Bitcoin is
Byzantine Fault Tolerant
Too expensive/powerful to 51% attack
No double spends
Very Hard public Data Storage

Having these properties NETWORKED is valuable, or is certainly non zero.
1 btc = 1 btc, guaranteeing this over a network is mathematically significant and useful.
Similarly, Random Numbers are VALUABLE. Prime Numbers are VALUABLE. Now imagine being able to send and CHEAPLY/trustlessly verify that these packets are True. Decentralization is what the smartest are working on but this is HARD mathematically. Scaling Ether is not easy.
SmartContracts are the thing behind the scene that regular users will never see. Like settling contracts in 'dollar pegged' crypto swapping from whatever coin/token the parties want.

Re: The dumbest people I know do crypto
So theoretically a candy bar could cost .0000000000000000189 Bitcoin?

Is that how pricing will work?

1 bitcoin = a billion dollars?
 Quoting: BRIEF

Bitcoin could go extremely high against the dollar. As the keep the presses rolling them out, and people lose confidence and dump dollars for alternatives.

Yes, it might just take an extremely small fraction of a bitcoin to buy a candy bar in the future.

Like I said, the decimal point could be moved for a new smaller denomination. Right now we have the Satoshi which is equivalent to .00000001 Bitcoin.

Success does not come from manufactured scarcity...That's an illusion...In the short term you may make a fortune, and it can vanish even faster...

As the population grows and everyone is using bitcoin, how will that work out if there are a limited number? How will pricing be calculated?

If I want to sell something, what is the dollar to bitcoin conversion? Why go through that extra step anyway?
