Fiona Apple took a Beatles song and improved it a lot. I never realized how deep it was until I heard her sing it. She brought out the meaning or possibly added it in.

I am very certain no one could do this today including her. The thing is that in the 90s this incredible accomplishment didn't seem very special. That's unbelievable.

"The 90s" immediately jumped the shark in 1992, when Bill and Hillary Clinton became "co-presidents." And 90s women Jumped the shark when Rose McGowan showed up with Marilyn Manson wearing "The Ass Dress."

And Ellen's TV character "came out as gay." Not Ellen DeGeneres. Her CHARACTER on a TV show that was created by a team of liberal California screen writers. And that other show that materialized out of nowhere "Queer as Folk."

This thread hasn't even scratched the surface of the topic yet. When I consider the diversity, creativity, originality, edginess, and style of female musicians in the 90s versus the 80s, I go with the 90s easily.

We haven't even discussed Bjork in this thread yet, and she deserves her own thread like this. She peaked in the 90s for sure. And there so many others like that who had no equivalent in the 80s.

She was dating my friends son back in the day when she was just starting to get radio play. They rode in the back seat of my honda to Disneyland. I just remember her being excited about her song being played... Who knew she would become so popular.

Sarah McLachlan didn't just peak in the 90s. There's been no music since and there was nothing before that was like what she did in the 90s. I remember listening to this song back then and thinking that it sounded so futuristic, and it made me excited for the future. Little did I know that nothing would sound this way again.

For those who may think the 80s and 90s distinction is irrelevant, there was so much unique music in the 90s that sounded nothing like anything that existed previously.

Well, way to clump everyone all together. I always was & still am down to earth, genuine & nice to everyone... Unless I know or sense you are evil.
