Anonymous Coward User ID: 77011521 06/04/2021 02:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's the treated wood for housing. There might be other gouging going on on untreated but it's affecting the smaller builders the most. My friends folks sold their place and were going to build a house, all plans done and ready to go... then the builder called them in and said sorry it will cost an extra 100k. So they are living in his driveway in their RV. At least it's a nice RV...The big builders have prices locked in under contract, at least they should... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77011521 Oh and some local builders have just decided to postpone all building till the price goes down. Mot folks can't afford a 300k house for 400... |

Quoting: Turtle Flower The other day I drove by the lumberyard, and have never seen so much wood piled up, almost the entire yard was filled with wood, stacks and stacks set out over the several acres. I’ve got a vacation ski house in Maine, every lumber yard up there is over flowing with raw logs and finished products. I’ve never seen their yards as full as they are now Quoting: Cardiak Can they sell it direct from the mills, or are they being told to just keep it there? Skip the Home Depots and call up your nearest lumber mills. |

User ID: 79167585 United States 06/04/2021 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I see full logging trucks everyday. Our lumber yard is stocked to the brim with wood and those rail cars are always being filled and moving out. So there is definitely no shortage, other than maybe a manufacturered shortage. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 3660940 United States 06/04/2021 08:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It never fails, spent 3 years saving to build my garage mahal this year. Got the lumber quote and said "eff that", and that was when a 2x4 was selling for $6. Its doubled since then. I think I'll just use that saved money to move out of this insolvent blue state and build an even bigger garage in a much lower tax red state. |
