Ween off the alcohol slowly but set a timeline of a few months where you make sure each week you drink less than you did the previous week.

If you can control yourself, get something that you shouldn't mix with alcohol, like a benzo or phenibut. Knowing you can't drink should work.

I really would just do that instead. I am not a regular smoker so wouldn't know where to start,
Alcohol is just easier to get. I say to myself Ill only have a couple but end up on a massive session every time.

I found that if I stop buying something, I don't consume it...If it's available, I'll use it up...STOP BUYING ALCOHOL

You seem like you could use an outlet to express yourself in a very honest manner. Even if that honesty is raw, negative emotion. You can try some form of art and even kind of invent your own. Exercise can also be a worthwhile way to express this emotion and get other benefits as well. The resulting endorphins can give additional motivation to staying away from the sauce and getting basically the same thing, a different, more preferred way.

Whatever floats your boat. Even if it's sinking boats. Just pick up after yourself.

Well you're not trying hard enough then. Does your state have medical marijuana? It's really easy to get a card.

Good people in AA. Lots of zoom meetings now. Don't ever worry about going to them for help and fellowship. They won't let you down and are just a phone call away.

Please be careful if you are a seriously heavy drinker. DTs can be deadly.

If you have health insurance, a planned and purposeful stint in rehab works for drinkers, I think, better than for drug addicts.

There's also the medication route if you have health insurance. The stuff they give you to block the buzz is very helpful.

Your brain needs to dry out a little in order to make the right decisions re: quitting. It gets better and better as you heal.

Brief is right never give an alcoholic opiates it's the same switches in the brain.

Naltrexone is helpful for alcohol. It blocks the euphoric effects. Much like with Chantix for smoking, you can continue to drink when you take it, but you won't enjoy it.

OP if you are using opiates with any regularity it will block the buzz from them, too … which causes some users to OD.
