Anonymous Coward User ID: 76237072 Australia 06/06/2021 03:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was born to parents who loved me. We always had a roof over our heads growing up and food in the fridge. Sure some kids thought they might be perceived as "tough" for picking on me for being really small and jumpy at loud sudden noises. But that became mostly passive aggressive stuff when our art teacher told everyone it was a sign of someone who grew up with guns. It's true, houses were worth $8,000 in the 70s and my father had $12,000 of guns and ammo... In fact the first time I shot a gun I hit a moving bottle in a river with the second round. The army dood who owned the gun had a buddy who said, "That was beginner's luck." But the army dood said, "There was no such thing when it came to guns because of the timing of aiming the shot with .22 rifles." Apart from a sociopathic woman who had a weird story; nothing really bad ever happened to me. Sure I got kicked out of a trailer park and was homeless for nearly two weeks, but I had a blast talking to the people who ran the homeless shelter and I thrashed a poor guy at Scrabble with my first word which was butane... I can understand why people would live in a homeless shelter, the shelter is clean, the staff are professional, the other homeless don't smell as bad as rough sleepers because everyone has a daily shower and you can do your laundry for free courtesy of Anglicare who run the shelter. Also the homeless behave in shelters because they've all slept rough and don't want to get their Centrelink payment taken by SPER over drunk and disorderly or drug fines. (State Penalties Enforcement Registry) I don't want to feel pity for everyone whose lived a hard life, because it usually comes across as condescending. Life is what you make it. It's your time to paint the life you've always wanted. Now is the day you get to shine! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75394950 The great depression was bad for everyone. My grandfather owned a large farm on the outskirts of Melbourne and when he couldn't sell his produce at the Queen Victoria Market, he just used it to feed homeless people. Because screw hauling it all the way back to the cold room on the farm, only to haul it back to the market the next day and selling it cheaper due to ripening. Of course back then the homeless situation was worse because of the economy and not homeless people just liking drugs more than shelter. |

Quoting: Hope_Full First marriage failed after 20 years (due to abuse), and second marriage ended when my much loved husband committed suicide. I have no family so I ended up living in my car briefly. I’m back on my feet now but I am envious of people who have peaceful and happy lives. For 50+ years, I have meditated daily and prayed fervently. I guess that’s why I am back on my feet. I guess I just want to know that I’m not the only one who’s struggled greatly, even though I’ve tried to do my very best. Thanks for listening. I am so sorry that you have had so many hurdles to jump in your Life. It is my belief that people who have overwhelming hurdles to jump and succeed in doing so have the most to offer others. When you are going through all that stuff you wonder "why me" It is only later in Life that your realize the gifts that come from your experiences. The gifts are.. Resilience Empathy Patience Inner Strength Determination Motivation Life has not been easy for me at times. Two years ago I had three very traumatic things happen to me one after the other. These experiences were overwhelming and threw me into a very dark place. It took me some time to emerge from that darkness but two years on my life is much brighter for the change that occured. Because of my experiences I have volunteered as a Crisis Support worker for a well known organisation. I could never have done this type of work had I not been through those dark times. So keep up your Meditation and your positive thinking. You have turned a corner and keep believing good things are coming your way. |
