Actually, it's because idiotic Daylight Saving Time has been extended to 8 long months each year from the original 6 starting in the 1960s.

Artificially deleted an hour each day from people's lives and pushing the clocks forward heightens the sense of "damn, how come the day is moving so fast and is almost over?"
