When I lived in the city I always drove a smaller model Volvo, mostly because the family put 350,000 miles on it and it still ran. Because I worked in Bodily Injury Claims (Auto) and several state troopers said little cars are death traps and they never saw a dead body taken out of a Volvo if they wore seat belts-I could do a page on why but anyhow, my kids were safe and so was I.
When we retired way up north with two way roads and zero street lighting at night, touristas in the day and all manner of animals from 800#moose to racoons with attitude and one sheriff for the whole county...You better believe I got a big Santa Fe.
Besides, up north, you slid all over with a smaller vehicle and with one 24hr snowfall of 3 to 5ft not uncommen up here, you'd die without 4 wheel drive.
And of course I wanted my Grand babies to be firmly seated in the middle so in case some looney hit us they'd have a better chance.
I have big sunglasses because I have Lupus and my eyes are very photosensitive and tinted windows to keep the sun off my skin as much as possible, even though my skin is tan looking since Im Ojibwe.
People are just TOO JUDGEMENTAL and jump to erroneous conclusions about everyone and everybody. I am an artist. I have tons of paints of all colors and to paint a forest scene with lots of wild flowers, a little pond with shell pink lilly pads and a wild deer stopping for a drink, I need almost every color...each one valuable for its difference and uniqueness...If all were to be equal and the same, Id have to mix them all up and have an ugly grayish color like cement. Would that make all this picky critics happy? A GRAY world.

Aah the early 2000s, soccer moms and their colossal escalades, these were everywhere in my neighborhood. Nowadays I don't see them so much anymore, replaced by high end SUVs that are slightly smaller

I've got 200k on my highlander, but I miss my big SUV. Kids are grown and gone and no need for room for 5 kids plus a cello and/ or camping gear. Add in rugged roads and harsh winters and awd/4wd is a good thing ( as are good tires)
I drive a lot for my job and need something reliable to get to remote areas and carry my gear.

We don't have the snow - just 2-3 days in the winter is all. I grew up in the North Country with lots of snow. My joints have become accustomed to the mild Southern weather now though - I don't think I could do that Northern thing again. I bet your paintings are beautiful.

Nope, here in Louisiana, it's a status thing. More often than not, it's one woman in a gigantic SUV and they can not drive the dang thing. They are almost always my age, so there's no way they have young kids.

One day, on my 30-minute lunch break, I sat for a good 7 minutes watching a woman try to back a Yukon XL ( their favorite, must be white) into a parking spot.

I nearly got out, drug her butt out of the driver's seat, and parked it for her. I decided not to because I'd have to sympathize with her and listen to her drama for a few minutes before she got out of the car. I am an East Texas girl, so whiny women who make their own problems and need someone else to fix them aggravate me.

I get the big car thing if you have kids, I drove a suburban when my kids were small. I needed it for their crap. As soon as the third one hit high school, and the other two had their own cars I bought a Prius. Best decision I ever made.

As a parent, you end up driving around not only your kids, but half of their teammates, as well as the sports equipment.

Earlier on, its strollers and portable cribs and massive supply bags.

Taking kids anywhere is like going on a safari, because you have to take so much crap with you.

Thus, 7-seater minivans and SUVs come in handy.

Agreed, it's women of all races here. The largest one they can get. They are usually white or black ( the car).
