This dream took place during the civil war. A man who would have otherwise been drafted and forced to fight took his wife and toddler son and his wife’s younger sister into the Smoky mountains to hide and lay low until the war was over. The girls had no one else to take care of them and if he had left, they would probably have starved. He seemed cool - not a coward. He hunted, worked to build a cabin, etc. . .
The wife was a bit of a whiner type - not very skilled or hard working. Enough was never enough.
The younger sister was mature for her age and “long suffering” sort of typified her. Willingness to be the servant.
A defected soldier who had done something bad (rape?) and was starving and slightly wounded came upon the man/husband who was chopping wood in the forest. The soldier saw the house and the women in the distance, hanging up laundry. He saw that the man’s gun was at a distance, against a tree. The defected soldier shot the good man, (who didn’t see it coming), and killed him.Then he approached the cabin, limping.
The women, having heard the gun shot and seen the husband’s body fall, were now armed and prepared inside the cabin. The young sister wanted to shoot the defected soldier and would have, but the older sister/widow refused to let her. She was afraid of being without a man.
The defected soldier insisted he had killed the husband in self-defense and that it was a misunderstanding - he didn’t mean to kill him. . . he was traumatized, out of his head, wounded, etc. . . so sorry. . . please, have mercy on me. . .
He was a big liar and actor. The younger sister seemed to be able to tell, but the widow willingly believed him. She took him in and began to nurse him back to health.
The defected soldier tormented the younger sister and the little boy when the widow was not looking. He whispered/boasted that he was going to marry the widow, get her pregnant and then abandon them. He twisted the little boy’s ears and pinched him. But when the widow was around, he pretended to be too weak to have done anything bad. He also complained that the younger sister was untrusting and suspicious. The little boy was a brat and wouldn’t come sit on his lap, etc. . .
It seemed as if the defected soldier lied with the goal of being maliciously hurtful - to harm and destroy - to set people against each other and hurt them as deeply as possible.
His lies were constant and surprisingly believable - everything from how many biscuits he had eaten and how many the little boy had eaten. . . claiming to be starving while the kid was pigging out. He flattered the widow and told her how good and sweet she was and how much better than her sister she was and how he was falling in love with her.
The younger sister tried to warn her widowed sister several times, but her warnings fell on deaf ears. The widow was determined to believe the man, regardless of anything her sister said.
Within a few days defected soldier was fully recovered and strong, but continued to act crippled so that he didn’t have to do any work. The younger sister did all the wood chopping, trapping etc. . .
The soldier began to complain that she was preventing them from being a happy family with her bad attitudes and suspicions. She was critical and full of fake conspiracies against him.
He tried to seduce the widow several times, and she kept asking him to get well and go get a preacher so they could be married. He would promise and sigh about his lame leg (not real) and talk about his burning love for her. Then behind her back he boasted to the younger sister that he was going to ruin the widow and then make her watch while he killed her son and then abandon her pregnant and alone.
The younger sister did everything in her power to convince the widow sister, but she would not listen. So one day the younger sister got out the gun, and without any conversation or explanation, she shot the defected soldier and killed him to save the widow, the boy and herself from a terrible fate.
The widow’s response was complete rejection of her sister. She hated her and would probably have killed her. She would rather starve to death alone and watch her son starve than to allow the younger sister to stay with them any longer. There was no gratitude, no understanding, no self-questioning or self-doubt in her. . . only rage. And I knew it wouldn't be long before that blind anger would kill her - slowly, miserably, and her son as well. |

Report Copyright Violation | Re: My Sister's Lover is Trying to Kill Her I awoke from the dream wishing the younger sister had walked away from the widow and the defected soldier early on. Without her work/provision, maybe the truth would have been more obvious early on. I prayed about it and the dream seemed an allegory. . . like the opposite of Atlas Shrugged. The younger sister should have ejected from the situation sooner. She should have walked away instead of fighting for her sister’s freedom and safety. Even though she saved her sister’s life - it ultimately could not be saved since the widowed sister was willfully throwing her life away. I think the meaning is obvious, but I will not give my own interpretation. Let him that has ears to hear understand and be warned. |
