I am cancelling a long-planned vacation in the upper Rockies. I really hate to do that, I love the area and we were going to meet up with friends that live in Idaho.

Although the destination and route are safe as can be, fuel costs (diesel truck pulling an RV at 9 MPG) have risen over 50% in key areas. There is a much greater chance of international chaos or infrastructure attacks. I don't want to be a thousand miles from home when/if the shit hits the fan.

This is the second time in as many years that I have foregone a trip because of strategic threats. I have been RVing for decades--and driving since 1972. I really don't like being indirectly controlled by politics, but sometimes an extra dose of prudence seems like the right thing.

Thank you for the replies. I think the concern is just...as a woman traveling with her son...but it's not like it's NYC or Detroit. I think I'm just paranoid.

Stay away from cruise ships. I never fly because of the shoe bomber terrorist. Do you still have to take off your shoes?

If you're going through St. Louis, gas up and check your tires etc. about 60 miles before you get close. Avoid stops there at ALL costs.
