Yes, they made some key mistakes during the battle of the buldge. Invading the USSR didnt help The war was lost by the time of the Battle of the Bulge. It was a desperate attempt to push back the Western Allies. Earlier in 1944 the Red Army had anilated Army Group Center and pushed the Germans back to within a few hundred miles of Berlin. If Germany had won the Battle of the Bulge Europe would have ended up being communist as the Soviets were not going to be stopped. Germany took on too much in invading the Soviet Union, their supply lines were overextended and they just couldn't keep up with the Soviets in soldiers, tanks, airplanes or anything else. It didn't help that the WWI Corporal who was a message runner took over from the great military minds of Europe. They still would have lost but that fool cost many, many more German lives by trying to run the war. |
