Holy Crap! I Found a Use for My iphone 4!!

I love old devices. I even have a Blackberry but it needs a new battery. I might order one at some point. It's still pretty cool.

I have two iphones and I don't use either for a phone. Never have.

I was using my iphone 6s for the sleep sounds but I use that primarily for Netflix, Pandora, web surfing and games.

I like having the sleep sounds off of it now and on my iphone 4 instead.

The iphone 6s is the oldest model that still updates. Mine doesn't have a sim card so I feel like I'm being spied on less.

I keep the iphone 4 on airplane mode with the wi-fi turned off. It's just for sleep now.

I just read that if you download an app on a more modern iphone with the same account, you can often times be offered the option of downloading it on your obsolete device with the last compatible version.

I'm going to play around with that tonight. I want Pandora and Netflix more than anything else on my iphone 4.

I have an older HoMedics Soundspa relaxing sound machine: jungle birds, rain, waterfall, surf and crickets (NO ALARM ) myself but I'm sure it must have cost at least $10-$12 at the time.

People use to line up overnight to pay $1,000 for what I bought at a garage sale for a couple bucks that is now my new alarm clock.

No, the iphone 4 is still an awesome piece of hardware but they stopped updating it so it's become nearly a brick.

My job is to still make it as useful as possible.

Turned mine into a baby monitor. Works great. Though we have an actual baby monitor. So only used it once like that. Good idea for a use.

I've been archiving my software since 1996, and that includes even all the Android apps I've ever downloaded and installed. I started doing so when I recognized the value of legacy systems, particularly in the manufacturing industry.

There's a lot of old machinery that's still working great, but it becomes useless when these old 386 systems and 5 MB hard drives would fail. A lot of small shops might have to go out of business when their old 1990 computer that controls a mill suddenly fails and they haven't $500k to buy a new system today.

So about 20 years ago I would get called to help these small and often single employee self employed businesses out. I had many operating systems and software and even a lot of old systems which i could use to get these worried guys back up and running. Even today i still have workable 386 systems, drives, operating systems, and a LOT of software still on hand. But now most of it isn't needed, as even those old machines have worn out. But there's still a lot of value in some of this old software, including some Android apps.

I've not been involved with helping others in these things for a while now, but .. you never know what might become valuable once again, especially after an EMP attack, or when trying to recover some old valuable data from an ancient operating system hard drive. And if anything, it might have sound museum value one day too. Sorry though, I never got into Apple stuff.

My phone is about 17 years old...Samsung Moto G on android 4.4.4...works a charm, been dropped thrice in water, still haas the OG battery which holds it's charge for days. I guess I saved a lot of money not trying to keep up with the phonetards.

You are a smart person... I love the retro gear. I've turned an iphone 4 into the ultimate sleep station. My dreams last night were amazing.

Good to know but I like the device now.
