Anonymous Coward User ID: 79543875 United States 06/20/2021 11:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is a rabies shot, from what I have heard if not pleasant to take, it cures it though, and you have to take it or die of rabies, because rabies is very bad. If there is an outbreak, they should be spraying to bring the rabies down. This was what they have down here in the South during outbreaks for a long time. Quoting: hankie I think the Rabies vaccines are six consecutive shots directly in your belly. You can not be numbed to it. You must bear the excruciating pain entirely on your own. The pain increases with each successive Rabies vaccine. At least this is what I have heard over the years starting sometime in the 1990's. They don’t have those anymore. |

User ID: 8080014 United States 06/20/2021 12:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They will if fear-mongers like the OP have their way. Rabies outbreaks are virtually UNHEARD OF due to strict control of feral animal populations and pet vaccination requirements that have been in place for over 60 years. The federal government and state, county and city Public Health Departments all have extremely high standards when it comes to both plant bacterium and animal-borne communicable diseases and they all work very closely with Fish, Game & Wildlife and Animal Control agencies. Over the decades they've really got it down to a fine art with very good control of Bio-Agricultural outbreaks. For example, when was the last time you heard of a Cholera epidemic outside an African nation? They've got the animal side down, now if only the CDC and NIH handled human outbreaks the same way! As a [now-retired] former USPS HAZ-MAT Specialist for my state, every Summer I routinely handled specimens and carcasses of suspected Rabies-infected animals en route to testing labs and even rural farmers who killed a suspected skunk, cat or dog followed those strict guidelines to the letter. And all of those specimens got top priority when passing through my unit as I ensured they were safe to transport, posing no risk to employees... or God forbid the general public. Over the years, I also expedited everything from suspected Anthrax and Mad Cow Disease samples [once involving the entire dry-ice packed head of a heifer weighing about 100 lbs.!] to hundreds of pounds [no joke!] of used sharps during an active flu season to several pounds of Weed samples Police and Sheriff's departments would ship to the FBI for analysis and later evidence in a trial. During one really bad Flu season I started receiving used sharps from every Dr.'s office, clinic and Walgreens in a 100-mile radius and while they too followed those federal guidelines for safe packaging, I had a BIG problem with a medical waste processor in the next county. They got greedy and began taking in waste sharps from surrounding states and quickly couldn't keep up with the volume, so they started to ship those hundreds of pounds to another plant via the USPS, whole APC's-full [an APC is a big, open-sided rolling cart]: whereas a clinic may ship sharps in a smaller 2qt box, I was suddenly seeing 10-15 five-gallon red tubs every night... and that's ALOT of used needles, folks! The problem was that the medical waste plant wasn't sealing those containers correctly and I got several into my unit open and with those used vaccination needles scattering everywhere. Now, think about that for just a second! Consider also that vaccination needles weren't the only ones in those tubs - they included every single one used for other purposes in those clinics and they all involved possibly infected blood. The hazard was palpable and needless to say I went ballistic and ordered no more pickups from that medical waste plant until they got their shit together and quit putting my own USPS plant in jeopardy. That immediately created a HUGE backlog for them but, TOUGH! I didn't cause the problem. Here's the kicker: The medical waste company [the plant was part of a bigger corporation and what I did was costing them some big bucks] pitched a hissy fit and would you believe I actually got flack from a flunkie in the regional USPS chain of command for doing my job? That's when I packed up copies of the documentation I'd been gathering and expressed it off directly to D.C. -as in the Postmaster General's office. That's when all the bitching STOPPED! Just yesterday they had a Polk County FL phone distribution call warning about a rabid racoon discovered in Polk City. First time in a while I've heard of a reported case. Quoting: scimitar Over the last five years I have seen a number of rabid animal videos pop up in my YouTube Recommendation. I have rarely clicked on them. The few I have seen have been incredibly disrespectful to the Rabies infected wildlife as well as the YouTubers themselves being utter POSes the entire time. Noone ever thinks about using a loaded firearm to eliminate said rabid animals. Just to keep poking them with sticks, their own body parts, and/or other objects for the lawls and views. If these YouTubers are an accurate representation of Humanity's overall approach to Rabies then Humanity desperately needs a Rabies Apocalypse to make Humanity a better species... or to make Humanity go extinct. Both are excellent ideas regardless. We shoot them where I live. If a wild animal is behaving oddly, it gets put down quickly. Understandable. The vet apparently talked him into having his dog get a new vax (when perfectly good rabies shots have been around for decades). So what happened is it destroyed the dog's pancreas, causing diabetes, then blindness. I saw the poor blind dog walk into the side of the house one day. It was horribly sad. Then, the dog was dead. Pro tip: Opossums don't carry rabies virus because their body temperature is too low for it to take hold. So, while they may not be cute, you don't have to be afraid of them (for the most part). |
