I agree with you about the generalized Gardnerized 'wicca' movement that grew in Crowly's wake. Sometimes I imagine all of that as a sort of inside practical joke.

I also agree with you on the concepts of 'power' and 'control' over elements that most of us haven't the remotest clue just how primordial they are.

chuckle

We're blessed now with the gift of learned hindsight.

Think of the set and setting he existed in at that time and what he had to work with that was readily available to him.

Yes, some of us have had the blessings of deeper genetic ties to the underpinnings of what was far later bastardized into the publicized Abrahamic system of corrupted western thought for the masses - but he wasn't - and still warped the timeline, for better and worse, for a century after, and by the force of his Will alone, as fucked as it was.

He brought the 'greys' in, for one example.

I really appreciate his take on the kabala and the likes. I think they are useful. And he lead the way for Chaos magick and psychonautics which is extremely beneficial when applied properly. I'm into all of chaos magick. I like the sigils and lack of high order. I didnt like the darker stuff. Definitely not my path any longer. I appreciate the freewill aspects of the left hand path. But I feel it lends itself strongly to those seeking power and revenge mainly due to the lack of balance. Especially when delving into the darker schoolings.

But I agree that the effect of consciousness was palpable and opened up avenues for people of all classes to learn some of the more secretive information of different magick practices. I like accletic stuff.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom! hf

Two very, very old practices those...
 Quoting: Sol-tari

I was under the impression that chaos magick was a new thing? Again forgive me for my ignorance. I've been learning for only a few years. And it has been sporadic and nothing set on one particular path. Im Much like a spaztic squirrel that way. When did chaos magick originate and i suppose sigils are as old as enoch?
And yes your right about there being too many pissed of djinn already. As if the spirits aren't hated and loathed and misunderstood enough already...people have to start pissing off the djinn and fairies now as well.
 Quoting: Venittempus777

Might just be my take on "chaos" and it's varying practices... sure their has been many who practice various paths, tried different methods, put something together themselves... went that backfired and start from scratch
chuckle

Entering altered states thru substance, trance, fasting or a long list for the psychonautics.

Sometimes that's the way to study. Go where your heart and interest take you, hacking your own way thru bits of the wilderness before coming along another path for a time.
 Quoting: Sol-tari

That is a good way to put it. I forget to take into consideration the fact that shamans and medicine men have essentially
Been doing chaos magick since time immemorial. Lol and I appreciate your advice. thank you :) also I really like your signature. Excellent way to state the truth!

Ok so gardener was one of the main founders of modern day wicca. That makes sense on why I don't know who he is by name. I never got into wicca as I thought it to be washed down magick. And I realized the abrahamic magic was blood magick based on my ties with the catholic church. I was on a magick forum that was heavily influenced by black magick practitioners, currently run by a modern day wanna be anton levay type persona, forum for a while. It has a lot of useful information in it because of the users, and I learned the difference between the different types of magick. I would consider myself gray as I am not adverse to offensive and defensive magick practices. But I found out, and was told by my guides that I am not to practice satanic or lucifarian black magick. This was shortly before and right as all the stuff about the peadophilia and human sacrafice was becoming more public Knowledge. I was told to stay away from the abrahamic stuff. And I knew that the catholic religion along with another abrahamic one was the root cause for the many evils going on.

Hindsight is a beautiful tool and the fact that so much esoteric info is readily ar our fingertips is truly magical. I think that is the main reason I started off liking crowley and blatvasky. They made the secret teachings available to the masses without the need for the societies. It honestly needed to happen. There are many gatekeepers who prevent people with honest intent and great potential from being able to access their rightful teachings due to varying and nefarious reasons. Imo.

Who would you say, or what system, would be good ones to read up on?

The three fold law is basically the law of attraction. What you focus on and what energy you put out, is what the universe returns to you.

If you put your energy and focus towards the results of "black magick" then more than likely you will get that black magick coming back to you.

That was your intuition telling you something was way off about that place. As a witch, your 'radar' is going to be more finely honed than most. It sounds like that place had a lot of negative energy surrounding it. I've been in places where my 'radar' went off and I immediately left because there was just something not right. Always go with your 'radar'. If something feels off, there is a reason. If there were black spells done in that place, you were right to leave. And a lot of the Gardner/Crowley type magick is, 'uneasy' to say the least.

Gerald Gardner. This is a guy I could write a dozen pages on.

Gardner was a really strange guy. Like Crowley he was part showman and part mystic. Some people consider him a genius. Others think of him as an eccentric, dirty old man who like to get naked and do very insane things. I'm somewhere in the middle.

Gardner was strongly influenced by guys like Crowley and Margaret Murray and Charles Leland. Gardner basically took what these other people had written, added his own made up rituals and basically invented a new religion. Gardner said he met some English Witches in a forest coven, but there is no evidence that this ever happened. It looks like Gardner just made the entire thing up.

So you get modern wicca. A mix of Gardner, Crowley, Murray and a butt ton of new age occult practices all mixed in to form a new religion. Back in the day, the stigma was that wicca was not a valid path for that very reason. That is was newly created. Even today Wiccans have never really gotten past that.

Personally I see Wicca as a valid path, but I just wish more of it's followers knew where it came from. It's a purely modern invention. The idea that there is an unbroken line that goes back thousands of years is just not historically accurate. Just like there was no ancient goddess worship cult. At least not in the form that the wiccans believe. This is what I call dubious history.

It's gotten better in recent years. You really don't have wiccan authors pushing the dubious history anymore. Writers like Buckland and Cunningham and Silver Ravenwolf etc

As for systems, for me personally it would be anything that promotes open practice over dogma.

See I need to do my due diligence and do the historical research. I'm lazy cause that stuff is dry as desert dirt to me.

I do know that a lot of the goetia stuff is based off of writings from the 1500s which was based off of solomon's magick and abralamin the sage. I'm torn on that stuff because it does have a lot of useful techniques but it revolves around so much abuse. I actually went down the darker paths, a lot of anger and ignorance with that part of my life, thankfully I have very caring and protective guides that led me out of that and have been working on clearing and integrating that shadow side.

I wish I had had someone teach me the natural way in person. Instead of floundering on my own. I dont regret the paths I've walked or the lessons I learned, because I learned a lot about myself in the process, But it would have been nice to have guidance from a living person to help me avoid a lot of the pitfalls I managed to get myself into.

Re: The Witch's Corner.

He brought the 'greys' in, for one example.

damned

Lessons ready to learn brought by those who dared before us I say.

WE have so much more at our fingertips now, including the gifts of hindsight.

There's lots of werk to do, I imagine.

 Quoting: Venittempus777

I was very fortunate. I was born into a tradition that had already been established by centuries so I had a firm background from which to begin. Many aren't so lucky. And learning anything on your own is much more difficult.

Don't fret over your past choices or mistakes. They are what they are. Opportunities to learn from and grow. You make a mistake or a bad choice, acknowledge it and move on.

As for the goetia, Abramelin and things such as the Solomonic seals, 72 Names, it all has to do with ceremony and commanding forces. It can lead you into some very dangerous places if you dont know exactly what you are doing.

Shadow work, bringing yourself into balance, acknowledging duality and integrating is about one of the best things you can do. I'd say at higher levels it's a necessity.

My advice, would be to seek out books and people on a traditional path and read books on traditional craft. Read, and let your gut guide you as to what you integrate into your practice. After a while, you'll know what works for you and what doesn't

I have a set of books that I usually recommend for people such as yourself if you are interested :)

And don't fall into the trap of thinking your practice has to be this way or that way. Don't box yourself in. The Craft is unique to each person.

People like this amuse me.

You come onto my thread and denigrate my beliefs and call them crazy.

Yet you believe in a book that...

Has talking Snakes. Talking donkeys. Magic snake staffs.

A man surviving in the belly of a whale for three days.

The dead literally rising from the grave to terrorize people.

A man who has super human strength because of his hair.

A man literally stopping the sun for a day by holding up his arms.

A loving God who wipes out all life on earth then manages to repopulate the earth with 8 people in only a few generations.

Ghosts, demons and zombies.

A naked woman eating an apple which causes the fall of mankind, and making the rest of us guilty for even being born.

And how does God fix this?

By coming to earth in human form so he can allow himself to be murdered in a blood sacrifice.

To save us from..um, himself, and what he is going to do to us if we don't get saved by him.

And I didn't even mention the bloodshed, violence, genocide, religious intolerance and hatred, acceptance of slavery. The treating of women as property.

The sheer stupidity and ignorance of primitive, barbaric peoples is celebrated while freedom of thought is suppressed.

Now tell me again about how my beliefs are crazy?

I can tell you this. If my knee bows, it won't be of my own free will. My heart and mind is something your "Loving Bible God" will never have.

The roots of all systems and all religions are the same.
All magick is chaos magick until placed in to a system where it becomes more ceremonial or ritualistic.
Just as everything is a theory before it is tested, reproduced and accepted. In some cases even an entirely new type science is born.

Even the oldest of traditions started with someone trying something, even the oldest of religions were 'invented'.

Note; when I say 'chaos magick' here I mean the original theory of using what works opposed to strict ceremonial and by the book magick systems.
In our modern era due to people 'systemizing' chaos magick, it might be better if I referred to it as chaotic magick. Despite the word chaos 'using what works' doesn't necessarily mean the energies of chaos (opposed to order), but does mean chaotic methods opposed to ordered methods.

I could actually write down my little bag of tricks in to a fairly well defined system nowadays. It is always evolving and thus leans toward a chaotic implementation, but there is, I guess... a chaotic order to it.
