You are right that some choose not to walk a spiritual path and that is perfectly fine. All paths are valid.

Patron and Don Julio are big commercial brands, but decent quality and readily available in my area. I’d love to try other smaller, lesser known brands, but I’d have to travel .... and have a designated driver.

When I lived in SoCal, I visited many small mom-and-pop wineries that produced incredible wines, but they only made enough for friends, family, local restaurants, and limited sales to locals.

Ah righto. Often the case with the small guys, making great stuff never intending to go big. These small/micro businesses need protecting - far too many legit little guys are being destroyed. Especially now. The uniqueness that many individuals creating stuff is something that needs to be preserved. Who wants a grey world of all same? Recognize similarities and work with each other, not identify differences and battle.

Sorry, bit of a tangent, but it's the same thing that's being stepped on and has been for centuries.

The person with the ailment should be informed of their ailment, consulted and be willing to accept treatment.

It's especially important when you consider misdiagnosis or assumed ailment. Some will point at another and claim say, they're spiritually sick, but this is from a perspective where they believe only their path is not sick.

There are cases to consider where the person is a threat to those around them, but it's case by case and again, must be accurate in diagnosis. Distortion of perspective is a big problem.

Fortunately, there are some good craft beers made right here in town that are complete unknowns to anyone outside of this area.

...and yes, they’re fragile and delicate businesses that need support, so I frequent them often.

Technically yes, as you'd be affecting their life without them having a choice.
Informed consent is important.

Imagine someone was ready to pass on, had achieved everything they wanted to in life, had a disease and were content to die from that.
Then you come along and heal them.

So it's case by case. :)

Personally; I'd like a particular physical ailment of mine healed, but I'd like to know details of how and what to expect afterward, etc.

Manufacturing consent is also rife in certain areas nowadays, that's a shit thing to do.

You asked why I believe sage clears away lingering negative energy.

First, everything in the universe vibrates at a specific energy or frequency. Burning sage is at a frequency that is the complete opposite of low vibration. Positive frequency displaces negative. That is the underlying process as I understand it. Your native American friend can probably explain much better than I can.

You asked why I believe a white candle protects me. Same principle as above. Not only do colored candles have specific frequencies, they are also a reinforcement tool. Meaning that they help me to mentally focus upon a desired outcome. The outcome in this case is protection from negative energy and negative influences. These are things that if you don't believe will work for you, then they never will.

I used the term righteous not in a religious sense, but in a sense of being justified in my actions. My actions being to rebalance an imbalance if that makes sense.

Saying, "so mote it be", is a witch thing. It is the equivalent of you saying, "amen". It ends the working and puts the responsibility of making it happen in the hands of the universal intelligence. It's not up to us to figure out the how. By putting it in the hands of the universe, you don't close off avenues or opportunities for things to manifest.

Say I want a new car. It's better for me to put that out to the universe and let it decide how to make it happen. If I say I want a new car but I want it to come in a very limited, specific way, that shuts down all other ways that car might come.

I take full responsibility for every magical act I do. I can't not take responsibility because everything I put out, comes back to me. The universe will always balance out the scales.

And finally, yes. I've had spells work and achieved outcomes that could have come no other way.

Free will is paramount. I would never do a working for someone without their permission. Even if it meant saving their life.
