Laughably, everyone regards themselves as a free thinker. Everyone. ...and yet, we can point at a number of people whose Minds are fully imprisoned. Those people actually believe they’re free thinkers and believe people like you and me are the Mind-imprisoned. Not one person will read that Tolstoy quote and think, “oh my gawd! How could I have been so blind to not see that all this time I’ve been a hive-Minded automaton operating on Fear, emotion, and animal instinct rather than logic, reason, rationale and critical thinking!” Not one. We should call it “The Tolstoy Dilemma”. . Quoting: Zovalex Indeed. On one level I don't think of myself as a free thinker. In some ways I'm tied to my beliefs as strongly as the fundamentalist. I'm willing to learn and question and I'd like to think I'm open to new ideas. But some beliefs are so ingrained in me since childhood. Does recognition of that and knowing that some things about myself are unchanging make me more or less a free thinker? Can anyone absolutely, 100% call themselves a free spirit/thinker?
