Typically associated with Thor and Mjolnir in that it opposes brute force methods as the giants are known for.
I've recently seen some people saying it isn't related to thorns, however historically I've always seen and felt this.
A relationship omitted or not considered when stating that, is the reactive property. This is very much a thorn like property, alike to a predator trying to take a nightingale from it's nest in a blackthorn, a reactive armour of sorts stabs the 'giant'.

This is a rune I've used in exactly this manner, a series of them around and with others. Placing it there and allowing the unconscious/natural forces play their part when danger approaches.

The 'directed force' property of Thurisaz can be related to Thor letting his hammer fly or lightning strikes - note that these can still be considered reactive, consider it like a protector that 'reacts' when shit gets bad.
