No one still cares I promise you. No one is like "Man, Stefan Khacheturian can play the shit out of a drum roll on those practice pads!" There are no guitarists or anyone who can name the World's Fastest Picker off the top of their head. Ok, seriously. If you are, in fact, recognized as the fastest picker (Roy fuckin Clark) or you win a legit drum contest (Jo Jo Mayer) you can score major endorsements. If you are already a working talent, it brings fame and renown to your already considerable swag. More than one drummer has cut to the front of the line in this way. The era of social media makes it possible to directly monetize this accomplishment, and leverage it into a steady stream of self produced content that can be lucrative to the extreme. The interwebs has changed the meaning and method of what it is to be a professional musician. If you think this is trivial stuff, you are missing the big picture
