Treating the old Latin Mass Lovers and the History of the Mass like Statues - Get Rid of Them! Wants to Divide the Church

Some Catholics criticized Francis's move, saying it is the first time they’ve seen a sitting pope reverse a predecessor's decision in such a strong way, the AP noted, and particularly under the extraordinary circumstance in which the previous pope is still alive and living in the Vatican.

“This is an extraordinary rejection of the hard work for the church and the loyalty to the hierarchy which has characterized the movement for the Traditional Mass for many years, which I fear will foster a sense of alienation among those attached to the church’s ancient liturgy,” Joseph Shaw, chairman of the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales, told the AP. <50%

"Pope Francis reimposed restrictions on Latin Mass on Friday in a move that goes against his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI's previous decision in 2007 and sparked anger with church traditionalists.

Francis issued a new law, effective immediately, requiring bishops to approve celebrations of old Latin Mass."
 Quoting: Fortunabeargirl

I would just remind all Catholics, though I'm Protestant, that no bishop or presbyter has a "right" to limit the liturgy in any tongue, including Latin.

I understand that Papa Frank is trying to be hip and get away from the Latin thing, but so many people are accustomed to Latin mass that it would seem bizarre to do it anything else. It's like asking a Greek church to not use Greek.

I, of course, have other issues with Rome, but Frank is really overplaying his hand.

He's also leaning very near "normalizing" homosexuality.

I see a day coming when there is actually a protestant movement with the RCC, even though that might sound oxymoronic.

Benedict is not the previous pope.

He is the pope -- God's elect.

Francis was chosen by MAN.

Yes, what is Latin mass?
 Quoting: zzbudzz

It is The Mass of Ages. The Mass that was attended by all Catholics until Vatican II.

These Catholics take issue with the New Mass and what is considered a lack of reverance towards the reception of The Eucharist among other reasons.
 Quoting: Fortunabeargirl

I'm Protestant and, as you know, we have a long tradition of schisms when we disagree about something, so maybe I just don't get it, but isn't it about time for you traditional Catholics to just say the hell with it and start your own church? We orthodox Methodists, for example, are going to split from the United Methodist Church next year and form the Global Methodist Church over the gay marriage/ordination issue. Or, are you just waiting for this guy to die hoping his replacement will be more like all of his predecessors? 'cause I doubt he will. The RCC has gone woke, and once you go woke, you don't come back from that.
 Quoting: Revbo™

Good question!

This happened before when they instituted Vatican 2. Archbishop Lefabre refused and branchdd off to what is known today as the sedevecantists. They are NOT in communion with Rome.

The Latín Mass parishes today formed when Pope Benedict removed the restrictions on the Latín Mass, allowing them to do it while being in communion with Rome.

Now that the restrictions hace been reimposed, they are against the wall. They either submit, or co the way of the Sedevecantists. And, to me, if they do this, they have become de facto sedevecantists.

This is crazy and I am wondering how it will play out.
 Quoting: Fortunabeargirl

Interesting. I've never heard of that group (and am having a hard time pronouncing their name). Was that group ever a formal church? Did they elect a pope? How do they operate?

I don't know why Catholics are surprised. Ratzinger himself issued warning in the 80s about Bergoglio.

They make it look squeaky clean on the outside, but Ratzinger and Bergoglio were nearly mortal enemies in years past.

I'm a protestant, but I know all the dirt that's been swept under the rug with those two.

They had diametrically opposed views on the direction of the church.

They have not elected a new pope, as far as I know. I think, they consider every Pope after Vatican 2 invalid and consider the chair empty. Maybe. I need to dig a bit.

I'll try to find those articles if I still have them.

Ratzinger was warning about Bergoglio and all that corruption that went down in Argentina.

You have to understand that Bergoglio could not allow Ratzinger to hold office as Bishop of Rome because Ratzinger was about to clean house, and Papa Frank was numero uno on the list.

My father was a very conservative Catholic -- though not a "traditional" Catholic.

He was very alienated by the reforms of Vatican II, which Benedict also championed -- along with John Paul II.

In fact, Benedict was only one of two priests to wear modern western clothes -- not a Roman collar -- at the sessions for Vatican II.

It was only after the counterculture of the 60's he did a 180 and became a conservative.

I've been reading about it, and it means "The seat of St. Peter is vacant," although the direct translation from Latin would not include the part about Peter.

I see, now, why they haven't ever formed a separate church. Part of their problem with Vatican II is its embrace of ecumenism, so the sedevacantists are in a Catch 22 situation where they see the RCC as the one true church, outside of which salvation is impossible, but they also see the leadership of that church as illegitimate, so if they leave the church formally, they are condemned, but if they don't, they have to deal with an impostor leading their church which, I assume, while not good, is preferable to eternal damnation.

Apostasy can happen anywhere, people. Anywhere. My church, your church, any church.

Apostle Paul warned the Church of Ephesus long ago about these kinds of wolves. They are real, and they will and do absolutely shred the church to pieces.

We know that in Ephesus shortly after the Apostolic era, that was the first place antidocetic gnosticism took hold. That's why Apostle John preacher against it so hard in his Epistles after his return to Ephesus after his exile on Patmos.

Watch these people, folks. They are Satan's own.

Acts 20

28Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Spirit hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29For I know this, that after my departing shall viscous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
