In my opinion, it has to do with destabilizing the land. TPTB are trying to create infrastructure failure. Yes, this is nothing concrete, just intuition, but I feel it strongly.

I mean, I can perhaps see why they couldn't send divers down to rig it with munitions, and they'd have to rely on a shock wave effect....I dunno, but I can very clearly see there could be two possibilities as to why they'd want to destroy a Stargate. It's either "bad" things coming through, or "good" things coming through....and I can't get anything intuitive on which. It could be that it's not about a Stargate. Interesting you had the same thought, though!....
