So he's the lord of the "good guys" huh? Sounds compassionate and forgiving.

In a way, yes but also no.

If you're not a Christian and/or are unfamiliar with the Bible you probably wouldn't understand.

Everyone is inherently good but they're also capable of evil acts (sins) due to human nature and us being a product of our environment and circumstances.

Jesus died a martyr so humanity could be forgiven of our sins.

If we follow his teachings and God's wishes for us, try our best to not sin etc then we will be forgiven for our wrongdoings after death.

We will enter a dimension of eternal bliss. (Heaven)

Those who deny Jesus and rebel against God will enter a dimension of suffering (Hell) whatever that may be.

If we are a product of our environment and circumstances as you say, and human nature is inherently "bad" in some way as you infer, then evil doesn't exist. Just bad choices. If Jesus died for our sins so we could be forgiven, then essentially there is no more wrong doing.

It isn't human nature that's bad. It's the things that people are tempted to do because of human nature that could make them a bad person.

Unlike animals who are driven by pure instinct, humans are driven by emotions and higher cognitive functions that animals don't have. You can decide whether to act on your thoughts and instincts or decide not to. That's called free will. Animals do not have that same power or higher cognitive function. They act purely on instinct and self preservation. There's exceptions to that such as a dog saving their owners life but for the most part they live the way they're biologically programmed to live.

Does that make sense?
