Who has read the book, "World War Z"?
I'm reading it now and love it! It's a novel by Max Brooks, written as an oral history of the Zombie Wars. I hear a movie is being made, based on this book.
Here's a website on the book - [link to www.randomhouse.com] .

I like the tab, Calculate Risk. Answer a few questions and it will calculate your chances of survival in the Zombie Wars.

While the catastrophe that brings about the near utter destruction of all society and humanity is not so plausible - a virus that causes people to regenerate after they have died as zombies, many of the scenarios seem plausible in the event of a worldwide catastrophe.

I would love to hear what others have to say about this book!

If you click on the tab for World Map, then click on the Z's, you can hear excerpts from the book regarding what happened in that part of the world in the context of this book.

The calculator is stupid and gives me low ratings.
Ey.
I own no boat.
It´s useless in my country.
I won´t carry a boat 5000 miles to the next ocean, even more with zombies hanging around.

I'm sure owning a boat is just ONE factor. You would probably be eaten immediately by the zombie hordes for many other reasons as well!

I'm reading it now. I'm on page 126 and liking it quite a bit.

Were you aware that Max Brooks is Mel's son?

That didn't click for me, but now that you mention it, I think I had read that before.

I'm further along in the book and it has held my interest all the way. I hope they do a great job with the movie - they should, there's tons of good source material to start with.

Babylon 5 Creator Makes Brad Pitt Zombie Movie
By Josh Tyler: 2007-02-26

The new millennium has been jam packed with great new space science fiction programming on television. Brilliant, serious science fiction shows ike ‘Farscape’and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ have left their mark. But in the 90s it was slim pikings. ‘Star Trek’ was on life support and the science fiction landscape was basically dead. Except that is, for J. Michael Straczynski’s brilliant series ‘Babylon 5’.

Since the show ended its five season run, there have been several attempts by JMS to resurrect it. None of them have gone anywhere except to some new direct-to-DVD features coming out soon, and he’s moved on to other projects. Wherever JMS goes, it’s worth following. One of his newest gigs is working on an adaptation of the Max Brooks book “World War Z”.

Word comes from our friends over at Filmstalker who’ve picked up an interview with Straczynski on IGN. In it JMS drops the news that he’s working on adapting the novel for Paramount, and that it may be a starring vehicle for Brad Pitt.

So what’s it about? Here’s how Straczyski describes the book: “…the book, if you haven't read it, is a wonderful, wonderful book in an interview format after the zombie wars.” Alright I’ve got to confess something. As soon as I heard zombie my interest level dropped right off. I love Straczynski’s work, but the whole zombie market is absolutely glutted right now. The last thing we need is another zombie movie, I don’t care how good the source material is. But maybe there’s more to this. He describes it more as a political thriller than another dumb movie about flesh eaters.

JMS explains, “You see how we survived. It's very political, very smart, very cagey, but there's no main character. So you have to create who the interviewer is and give him some background and bring him from place to place to place to place. And they said, 'Feel free to get as political as you want, as incisive as you want, to play with it. You could look at this as a Katrina kind of catastrophe.' But I'm being very faithful to the book, letter by letter when I can, and I'm on about page 70 right now and I'm really happy with it. I'm really pleased with it actually, so if that goes well we might go into production on that one.”

I loved it. I'm a big fan of zombie apocalypse stories and this is one of the best books in the genre. It's audio book makes for great listening. The way Max Brooks portrays the reaction of people and governments to the zombie outbreak is very realistic and believable.

2XS, I suggest you read The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. Its a manual of how to survive the zombie apocalypse and as enjoyable as World War Z.

I've seen the manual but didn't get it.
I hope they do the movie like the book is written - someone conducting interviews and the people tell the stories in first person, with flashbacks to the events. I hope they don't try to make it like a sequential story shown as it happens.

It is a great read - makes you think about what extremes we would have to go to in the event of a global disaster, and raises the question time and time again - do we have the fortitude to succeed? You get the message over and over, do not wait for the govt. to step in and save you in times of large scale catastrophe. They will always be two steps behind the threat and will not act in time to prevent the catastrophe, even when they have the intel in front of them about what is going on.
I think many here would appreciate this book!
