Imagine being so fuckin stupid, you think people should have to work 2 hours making others food before theyve earned enough to buy themselves a meal.

Sister has a cafe/bakery. Nobody wants to work, she is getting too old to run the place by herself and is looking to sell. Low end workers have gotten used to doing nothing and collecting "free money" and don't want to get out of bed to take a job. She is a fair employer, pays above minimum wage even before she was required to and gives bonuses when she can. She has even tried breaking it down to show them that they can make more working for her and if they work hard the tips are good, but they say it's sweeter to make enough to keep living at their mom's place and not have to work at all.

I don't feel bad for the mega employers like McD and Wally World that could pay a living wage if they wanted to, but they will survive. It's the few small businesses that have hung on and sacrificed to stay in business during the lock down that are faced with either running their business on their own at a loss or shutting down. Funny how those of us that have continued to work and pay taxes during this all are the ones that will pay for the deadbeats and when we lose it all there will be nothing left to help us out.

I agree. There needs to be guidelines and policy put into place in regards to employee count vs company proceeds. Smaller businesses could be helped by taxes that are dodged from the megacorps, and taxpayers can quit footing the pay for megacorps welfare workers

i know a couple places that shut down because people wont work, THERE. Beer houses. Pay is crap, waiting tables, 15 hours a week, or 50+ hours, with NO OVER TIME PAY, working 3 times harder. Not worth the BS to alot. Not to mention, alot of others found better jobs, when shit opened back up.

They are probably thinking if they give you a job that you could end up taking their job because of your qualifications. So you don’t get hired.

That would be correct. Nearly 20 years ago when I started working, minimum wage wage $6. It took 1 hour of work, and I could afford 2 meals. Nowadays at $7.25, I can barely afford 1 meal.

Considering fast food won't give 40 hours most places, I never had insurance when I was that young since I would have had to pay. There's no reason a giant food corporation can't afford to pay me enough for daily needs while they are paying executives millions in bonuses and managers double my pay to stand around with a grudge to the hourly workers.

Another real problem where I live is that it's impossible to find a rental unit anywhere near these jobs. Downtown Vancouver has a real problem filling retail and food and beverage jobs because the average rent for a one bedroom within the same transit zone is at least $2000, which is more than one full time minimum wage job. Thanks to "foreign investors" buying up all the real estate and leaving the units unoccupied. People simply can't afford to take these jobs. Even in the outer suburbs a one bedroom is around $1200 and a bus pass to get from there to a job in Vancouver is $200 and would be a couple of hours each way commuting. Once the bills are paid you would have nothing left for food.

Similar on Kauai. Rent (IF you can find a place) is outrageous, as is the cost of food and fuel. On top of that, we’re having infrastructure issues. Only one main road with the North Shore still on limited convoy access due to a major slide in March, several other traffic snarling projects around the island and WAY too many tourists along with locals causing daily traffic jams. So, while there may be jobs on one side of the island, the people who need them might live on the other side with a very looong, difficult and stressful commute.
