TEXAS TO BE FIRST STATE TO MAKE BUYING SEX A FELONY | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80639350 United States 07/21/2021 02:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | While many states seem to be relaxing many laws such as cannabis prosecution, Texas seems to be GOING BACKWARDS. Cannabis is still illegal, and now starting in September, IT WILL BE A FELONY to pay for sex with money. Everything's bigger and "better" in Texas (especially the for profit prisons)? What a complete waste of taxpayer and law enforcement time and money. Just another way to fuck people out of money and their life. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79530924 "(The Center Square) – A new law that goes into effect Sept. 1 will make Texas the first state to punish sex buyers with a felony. HB 1540 was filed by state Rep. Senfronia Thompson, D-Houston. It passed both chambers of the state legislature and was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott. The new law creates a separate offense for buying sex and raises the penalty to a state felony subject to jail time. It expands first-degree felony human trafficking to include certain actions related to obtaining victims from shelters or certain residential facilities. It also requires the state to deny some alcoholic beverage licenses and permits if drink solicitation occurs. It also amends provisions governing common nuisance lawsuits relating to prostitution and illegal massage operations, and amends provisions on civil racketeering relating to human trafficking. The bill also includes a trespassing offense for those who traffic through a residential treatment center. Traffickers are targeting these centers, the House Research Organization bill analysis states, in order to lure and recruit children. The bill gives law enforcement “another tool to combat this through the trespassing statute and by expanding child safety, drug-free, and gang-free zones,” it states. “Texas is the first in the country to punish sex buyers with felonies, which is a substantial step towards curbing the demand for commercial sex,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement. “Human trafficking is modern day slavery – targeting vulnerable men, women and children in our communities. I commend our legislature for passing laws that fight this inexcusable offense.” [link to tylerpaper.com (secure)] javascript:doSmilie(':wtf:');javascript:doSmilie('');javascript:doSmilie(':s226:');javascript:doSmilie(''); Women openly prostitute themselves regardless. When some girl gets busted, they will say roll over on all your clients/contacts so we can go after them, as a deal. Who exactly does the law target? Brothels, prostitutes, strippers? With todays technology, they can easily use surveillance, gps, ATM's, video/audio to go after people. This is a FELONY, not some misdemeanor. Surveillance, stakeouts, tracking people, business closures. I agree it's going to keep happening....just not in Texas |

And how exactly is this going to stop prostitution? They will simply go to other states idiot. This ultimately has nothing to do with trafficking of people. It has to do with propaganda, news headlines, and making the state more money with prisoners and court cases |

Paying makes sense for both people - she feels rewarded and so do I. If paying for fucking becomes a felony, it's cheaper to just rape for free. Same penalty and there's a much greater choice of women. |

It actually increases violence since only men willing to do violence will take the chances of getting hit with a felony. They will also assault any cops that try to take them down since they have so much to lose if they get caught. If it's a felony to pay for sex and a felony to rape, rape is cheaper and has more available choices. The only model that actually works is the New Zealand model that's worked well for 16 years or so. The sex businesses and providers are treated just like any other business. If either side fails to do as agreed, the other side can take them to court. It's open and transparent, and the rules of each interaction are agreed to by the parties involved. The state just stays out of the way unless someone gets violent or violates their contract. |
