Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Millie describes the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan as one in which the Taliban are winning
Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley described the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan as one in which the Taliban have the “strategic momentum” as they control more than half of the country’s rural centers, while the government in Kabul is consolidating forces to protect provincial capitals where most of the population reside.

“There's a possibility of a complete Taliban takeover or a possibility of any number of other scenarios — breakdowns, warlordism, all kinds of other scenarios that are out there,” Milley said at a Pentagon briefing Thursday. “We're monitoring very closely. I don't think the end game is yet written.”

“You've got 34 provincial capitals in Afghanistan. None of them have been seized, as of today, by the Taliban, although the Taliban is putting pressure on the outskirts of probably about half of them, 17 of them, in fact, and what they're trying to do is isolate the major population centers. They're trying to do the same thing to Kabul,” Milley said.

“And roughly speaking, the order of magnitude — a significant amount of territory has been seized over the course of six, eight, 10 months sort of thing by the Taliban. So, momentum appears to be — strategic momentum appears to be sort of with the Taliban.”

Milley was asked to explain why the Taliban appeared to be winning despite the government’s overwhelming numerical advantage, with more than 300,000 U.S.-trained and equipped armed forces, compared to just 75,000 Taliban fighters lacking air support or heavy weapons.

“There's other factors that determine outcomes,” Milley replied. “The two most important combat multipliers actually is will and leadership. And this is going to be a test now of the will and leadership of the Afghan people, the Afghan Security Forces, and the government of Afghanistan.”

I had the pleasure of taking three all expenses paid trips to that country. If those assholes willingly allow fanatics to take over and run the country, well, fuck 'em. It is a beautiful country, physically, but has way too many shit people.

"The developments on the country’s northern border areas and the mass exodus of Afghans into the territory of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan show that the accords between the United States and the Taliban Islamic movement (outlawed in Russia) are not being fulfilled," Shoigu said at a meeting of the defense ministers from the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

So basically 20 years of lives lost and all the expense down the drain.

I'm not saying we should have stayed, we should never have been there for 20 years.

Re: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Millie describes the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan as one in which the Taliban are winning
Sadly our military has become a Mercenary Army ... and Mercenary Armies are there just to fight for the elites, the concerns of the common person is irrelevant.

Most of the populous of a country that has a strictly Mercenary Army doesn't care if a Mercenary dies ... after all that is what they are "Paid" to do. Fight, and DIE sometimes, if that is what the elites want them to do. The US military has just become an extension of Blackwater, the two sets of Mercenaries have in most respects become one and the same.

Most in the US could care less about the loss of military lives in Afghanistan and Iraq (or Blackwater lives). It wasn't their War to begin with and if they or a family member didn't volunteer to be a Mercenary then they have been untouched by those Wars.

The British tried to conquer Afghanistan twice ... lost oodles of men both time ... never succeeding. The Russians tried the same, lost bunches of men, and didn't succeed either.

The US was just traveling down that well worn road of Colonial Conquest and after Vietnam one would have thought that the Elites would realize those days are past, but NO ... they tried again since a Mercenary Army doesn't complain about a War or useless casualties, unlike a Civilian Daft Army.

(and then the US later tried via indirect means via a coup in Libya, which has ever since been a COUNTRY IN CHAOS; with the "Arab Spring", ANOTHER LOSER endeavor; an attempted overthrow of the government of Syria, ANOTHER LOSER, and then most recently with the Coup in Ukraine - looks like they are LOSING there yet again but the final acts have yet to play out).

Time to get rid of the Mercenary Army of the United States ... and go back to a civilian DRAFT Army. If we had a Draft Army we would have been out of Afghanistan 12 years ago since the populous wouldn't have put up with their drafted sons, brothers, and cousins being killed in a useless War.

Did the boys in the Pentegram not notice that the Viet Cong moved in before the US was 'gone in defeat'?

I'm going to assume most of the locals that helped NATO have now been abandoned by NATO, if the 'high value' people were 'disposed of' and the Taliban will be blamed.

Re: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Millie describes the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan as one in which the Taliban are winning
'Winning' as in finding a land without a Military to protect it from invasion. Since NATO would have taken a few 'helpers' away, killed others, so they couldn't talk and just abandoned the vast majority. The ones left behind and in danger of being killed for treason should make a selfie video confession and post it to Interpol, so you have a file number when that fateful knock on the door comes.
There are probably more than a few families living in NATO aligned countries that would like to return as citizens (shopkeepers) rather than as spies. They would be able to show how the US is run, so an alternative should probably be used.

The B-52 bombing certainly shows NATO's colors haven't changed since the firebombing of Dresden. Celebrate the end of a war by committing the biggest war-crime of the war and most likely the whole century.
Good way to show your psychopathic nature, INHO.

They turned it over to big pharma in northern Europe. China will take control of the Golden Triangle. Afghan has to supply the rest of the world. The poppies in Northern Europe are only for local consumption, like always since about 600AD.

North America should donate Kansas to just that crop. Make it worth about $1/oz @ 90% quality.

What about Chicago or Baltimore or San Francisco or any number of American cities that are being over run by criminals.

Why doesn't general Millie talk about that?

Canadians are helping theirs, presumably Brits, Aussies, and Kiwis ... not sure about Americans?

I don't think the rest of Nato was worth squat piss in Afganistan as far as engaging Taliban/Al Queda on the ground.

My heartfelt apologies to any Euros I'm lumping in with the German, French and Italians. Not to say those military's aren't highly capable, but their politicians are pussies.
