Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
Ok, i just started reading Exodus 5. Aaron and Moses go before Pharaoh to do as God commanded, and that was to tell Pharaoh to let His people go.

What do you think was in Pharaoh's mind when they said this to him?

What does Pharaoh do?.

Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
Pharaoh does just what God wanted him do, resist until all the plagues have been poured out. That was done as it was God showing Christ how to pour out the 7 vials of wrath. Sodom'fire is also in Re:16 as well as Jesus playing the role of the angel of death.

To that extent, the exile to Neb's Babylon was also set up by God so a few things would unfold the way He wanted them to unfold.

For readers that follow the water crossing event from Exodus:14, if you read along while looking at a map of the area, it would appear the Bittern Lakes play a role. Where the big body meets the small body is where Moses camped on the west side. The strong east wind blew water from the small lake into the big lake. In the morning Moses crossed on the damp sand, when the soldiers tried to follow the wind stopped and the water came back as a fast moving flash flood.
The soldiers kept to the road while Moses went 'off-road'.

Ex:14:1-2:
And the LORD spake unto Moses,
saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel,
that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth,
between Migdol and the sea,
over against Baal-zephon:
before it shall ye encamp by the sea.

Anybody exterminated in the exodus wars were 6 fingered people. Children were captured in the nations that were made up of 6 fingered people.

Ex:7:13-14:
And he hardened Pharaoh's heart,
that he hearkened not unto them;
as the LORD had said.
And the LORD said unto Moses,
Pharaoh's heart is hardened,
he refuseth to let the people go.

Is that because God knew Pharaoh's heart? Did He know that Pharaoh had no regard for Him and never would?

Notice the commonality? Humans.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss our assigned reading for the day.

Today's reading is Exodus 5-Exodus 31:18.

Let's thank our OP for her generosity and grace in not only initiating this 40 day and night Bible reading, but also for this thread that is meant to bless us, encourage us, and edify us.

May we bless and encourage the OP, and each other as well.

Random question(s) from Genesis 5:

What was the name of Enoch's father?

Enoch 'walked with God'. [Mentioned twice!]
He died at the very YOUNG age of 365 .. or rather God took him at 365 years old.

His father Jared lived to be 962!

Enoch's son Methuselah (oldest human) lived to be 969 years old.

Interestingly, Noah was also mentioned as one who 'walked with God'.

My opinion is that Enoch and Noah actually walked with God (Jesus) and in His Ways, while the world sunk in violence and depravity.

 Quoting: Servant-of-the-LORD

LOL. Your theology is flawed.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22255432

So you're going to claim that what Jesus SAID is "flawed"??
Here's the KJV verses I referenced for the list above.

1. Father God SENT Jesus. (47 times in the 4 Gospels)
The word "sent" occurs 130 times in 125 verses in Matthew thru John in the KJV.

[link to www.blueletterbible.org (secure)]

Jesus SPECIFICALLY states that He was "SENT" 47 times

2. Father God TAUGHT Jesus. John 5:19 & John 8:28

5:19 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

8:28 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

3. Father God TOLD Jesus what to say. John 12:49

49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

4. Father God has commited judgement to the Son. John 5:22

5:22 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

5. Father God GAVE Jesus power to forgive sins. Mark 2:10

2:10 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,

6. Father God GAVE Jesus power over heaven and earth. Matthew 28:18

28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

7. Father God GAVE Jesus glory. John 12:28 and John 17:5

12:28 8 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

17:5 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

8. Father God GAVE Jesus power over all flesh. John 17:2

17:2 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

9. Father God GAVE Jesus commandment to raise His own body. John 10:18

10:18 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

10. Father God GAVE Jesus commandment what to say. John 12:49

12:49 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

11. Father God GAVE Jesus "All things into his hand" John 3:35

3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

12. Father God EXALTED Jesus Acts 2:33

5:23 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

SON OF God

"Son of God" is used 46 times in the New Testament.

"God the Son"??? ZERO times.

"God Jesus"??? ZERO times.
 Quoting: Servant-of-the-LORD

God was incarnated as a man.
Thus Son of Man and Son of God Titles.
Key word is GOD was incarnated.
Jesus was with God from the beginning, thus the Trinitarian nature of God is revealed.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22255432

NONSENSE.
You keep making statements but
NEVER back them up with scripture.

Where are the words "triune" or "trinity" in the Bible?
NOT there.
It's a pagan "perception" / belief applied to Father God, His Son and the Holy Spirit.

The concept didn't even exist until the 2nd Century.

The "Trinity" didn't exist - nor was even taught by Jesus OR the Apostles.

The first of the early church fathers to be recorded using the word "Trinity" was Theophilus of Antioch writing in the late 2nd century.

He defines the Trinity as God, His Word (Logos) and His Wisdom (Sophia) in the context of a discussion of the first three days of creation, following the early Christian practice of identifying the Holy Spirit as the Wisdom of God.

The first defense of the doctrine of the Trinity was in the early 3rd century by the early church father Tertullian. He explicitly defined the Trinity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and defended his theology against "Praxeas",[47] though he noted that the majority of the believers in his day found issue with his doctrine.

.....

The filioque ("and the Son") wasn't added to the Nicene Creed until the Council of Toledo in 589. It was basically the FULL beginning of the "God the Son" trinity.

Are you here simply to argue with believers and push your doctrines of demons?

The Trinity has been orthodox for nearly 2000 years.
Now you come along with your cult and say something else?

You are exactly who Jesus warned us about.

Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
What was unusual about Enoch?
 Quoting: canyouhearmenow?

Enoch 'walked with God'. [Mentioned twice!]
He died at the very YOUNG age of 365 .. or rather God took him at 365 years old.

His father Jared lived to be 962!

Enoch's son Methuselah (oldest human) lived to be 969 years old.

Interestingly, Noah was also mentioned as one who 'walked with God'.

My opinion is that Enoch and Noah actually walked with God (Jesus) and in His Ways, while the world sunk in violence and depravity.

Yes, i noticed that too, that both Enoch and Noah walked with God.

and they all lived a long long time back then.....

Methuselah lived almost 1000 years!

this is fascinating.....

Sidenote for additional reading- John Morris has a great book on the Flood proofs and conditions on the earth pre-Flood. [which enabled men to live nearly 1000 years]

Enoch certainly is an interesting character; such short mentions of him in scripture make me curious.

What i find interesting is that Enoch didn't "die".

God just "took" him....

And this is the first time i noticed that it is written that Noah also walked with God.

Fascinating.

Yes, much like Elijah and even Moses ... God took them.

But I don't want to be the spoiler for some great chapters to come!

Genesis is a looooooong book hahaaa

and it is interesting how God intercepted each of His servants lives when it was timd to depart, one way or the other.

What else caught my attention is that when God cursed the snake, aka Satan, the snake "lost his legs" hahahaa

Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
I tried to post yesterday but couldn’t.

Quick points on yesterday’s reading

Bloodlines are obviously important to God, but it seems primarily male bloodlines. Women are hardly mentioned and when they are it seems all they want is to have kids.

having children with first cousin, aunt etc is not a problem and does not cause all kind of birth defects. Which is not the case in nature and inbreeding will cause all kinds of birth issues

the people God tells Abraham etc to kill are they not also their relatives via Noah and his three sons?

today’s text

I am not sure I understand why God intentionally hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so he could unleash multiple plagues and death. The only thing that sort of make sense is that the gods the Egyptians worshipped are variations of Satan and fallen angels, and God was showing Moses and all that he was the one true God and the others were powerless imposters.

One more thing when Jacob is giving out his blessings to his sons why is Dan associated with a snake. Snake invokes imagery of satan and they garden of eden, so odd Jacob would use similar imagery

Hi Wayne. Just curious, where is it written about six fingered people?

Thank you kindly.
 Quoting: canyouhearmenow?

2Sa:21:20-22:
And there was yet a battle in Gath,
where was a man of great stature,
that had on every hand six fingers,
and on every foot six toes,
four and twenty in number;
and he also was born to the giant.
And when he defied Israel,
Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.
These four were born to the giant in Gath,
and fell by the hand of David,
and by the hand of his servants.

Nu:13:33:
And there we saw the giants,
the sons of Anak,
which come of the giants:
and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers,
and so we were in their sight.

Ge:6:4:
There were giants in the earth in those days;
and also after that,
when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them,
the same became mighty men which were of old,
men of renown.

Yes, this is puzzling....

there are other snake references as well, for instance when Moses, later on, holds up a brazen snake, i think, for healing of the people....

interesting....
