It broke out in New Jersey in the fall of 1976. I was in the army that year stationed in New Jersey until June 1976 (AIT training). I was then sent to Korea in July 1976. I remember this flu outbreak because we were all given shots that fall, but half were the vaccine and half were placebo injections. It was mandatory. But I was quite certain that I got the placebo, because I experienced no side effects, and neither did those in the same line as me. But those in the other line complained of minor side effects. I remember that I did not want to get that shot, as well as a few others, and I even tried to get out of it, but was told I could be ordered to do so because I was in the military. I remember that day distinctly, standing in formation outside of the barracks, in Taegu South Korea. It was a cold morning and cloudy. I was tired and shivering. I had just finished working a midnight shift in the autodin comm center (MOS 72G). After that, flu shots became quite routine every year, but I never took any other flu shots after that year, placebo or otherwise. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80667634 You are correct, its much more deadly now. "Y’know they’re schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are"-Joker |

I was stationed in Korea 1973-1975 Camp Page, 1980-1984 Camp Henry, 1988-1992, Yongsan (I retired 71L40) - Never had a flu shot that I can remember. '76-'77 I was in Saudi Arabia - no shots while there either. I joined in New Jersey as well (from Matawan) |
