Main idea, before the Sirens go off, they must make a call to arms, a call for quick vaccination, even the first dose is enough to protect in such crisis periods. No damage. It caused a tsunami to a remote island but no damage to that either. The one previous to that was a 9.2 in Anchorage on Good Friday also in 1965. There was a lot of physical damage and 131 fatalities. Today I'm sure there would be more casualties because it's more populated. Alaska can withstand large earthquakes because it's so vast and largely unpopulated but that same quake would be devastating to a place like Vancouver or Seattle or San Francisco. |

The Juan de Fuca still hasn't moved but will soon now. Hours or days I can't say. Or years, or decades. No, there is a lot pressure and that spot is stuck. This EQ was a result of enough pressure build up for the NA plate to make a dive at this portion of the subduction zone. This frees up the NA plate cascadia zone to override Juan de Fuca plate. I would not want to live in Vancouver BC. |
